The Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit is a high-performing and innovative service, delivering same-day diagnosis and treatment to over 12,000 ambulatory patients annually, with over 95% successfully discharged on the same day. We are recruiting a Specialty Doctor to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team and play a key role in the delivery and continued development of this model of urgent care.
This post is ideal for a motivated and skilled clinician seeking a role that combines hands-on acute medicine with service innovation, education, and leadership opportunities.
Main duties of the job
* Provide timely clinical assessment and management of acute medical patients attending the SDEC unit
* Collaborate with nursing and allied health professionals to deliver high-quality care
* Contribute to the development and refinement of clinical pathways and admission avoidance strategies
* Support junior doctors and allied health professionals through supervision and teaching
* Take part in quality improvement, clinical governance, and audit activities
* Participate in the departmental rota, including some weekend coverage

Person specification
Knowledge and skills
* Competence in basic clinical procedures aligned with the requirements of rapid decision-making, multi-morbidity management, and collaborative practice typical in an SDEC environment.
* Proficient in the management of Common Ambulatory Presentations: chest pain, breathlessness, syncope, cellulitis, DVT, PE, anaemia, falls in frail patients.
* Knowledge of UK health systems, practices and values; awareness of current issues in the NHS
Qualifications and Experience
* Has achieved MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* At least 2 years’ experience in Acute or Emergency Medicine
* ALS certification
* Demonstrates understanding and practical experience in ambulatory care models, including the principles of Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). This includes knowledge of appropriate patient selection, rapid assessment and diagnostics, timely clinical decision-making, and discharge planning within the same day framework.
* Able to navigate referral pathways, utilise risk stratification tools and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
* 12 Months continuous experience within the NHS
