Job overview
You will be responsible for developing, planning, and coordinating specialist treatments in Neuro Interventional Radiology, including endovascular neurosurgery, spinal, stroke, and neurology patients.
You will play a proactive role in quality and service development, aiming towards 24/7 mechanical thrombectomy provision for ischemic stroke treatment.
Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will assist in auditing clinical standards, ensuring a high standard of care and a good working environment.
You will perform specialist Neuro IR nursing procedures, provide advice to patients and carers, and act as nurse in charge in rotation with other Band 6 nurses, leading by example and supporting training and development initiatives.
You will deputize for the Neuro Radiology Lead Nurse during leave, acting as a deputy clinical lead and expert practitioner, liaising with the multidisciplinary team and external agencies.

Clinical: Core Nursing/Health Professional Responsibilities
1. Create an environment of continuous quality improvement and professional development, reviewing care delivery and implementing service developments.
2. Provide expert clinical advice to promote best practice and reduce patient risks, developing training programs for ongoing professional development.
3. Demonstrate contemporary clinical practice, exploring new ideas and evidence-based changes.
4. Negotiate and adapt patient care to resolve complex problems, ensuring patient-focused values in service changes.
5. Undertake neuro IR procedures, including pre-, during, and post-procedure care, scrubbing, and circulator duties.
6. Maintain accurate clinical observations and ensure safe medication administration.
7. Advocate for patients, ensuring infection control compliance and a safe, respectful environment.
8. Investigate clinical incidents and implement improvements.
9. Assess, plan, and interpret patient data, adjusting care plans as needed.
10. Manage medication and treatments per guidelines, supporting patient discharge when appropriate.
11. Maintain accurate documentation and liaise with staff for efficient care delivery.
12. Respond effectively to emergencies, such as cardiac arrests or major incidents.

Person specification
Professional registration / Experience / Qualifications
* Valid NMC PIN
* Registered General Nurse (Level 1), Degree level, with significant post-registration experience, including specialist or general practice, and evidence of postgraduate training.
* Experience supervising staff, conducting audits, and understanding clinical governance.
* Extensive post-graduate experience in the specialist field, with advanced skills and multidisciplinary team experience.
* Knowledge of radiological nursing, IRMER, and IRR99 regulations.
* Strong communication skills, ability to deliver training, and build professional relationships.
* Excellent clinical reasoning, IT skills, and workload planning abilities.
* Physical fitness for the role, ability to operate relevant equipment, and handle distressing situations.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, supporting out-of-hours on-call duties.
* Strong organizational and time management skills, with experience in change management and service improvements.
