We’re looking for a confident, compassionate, dynamic, fun and creative Personal Support Assistant to support a 14-year-old boy in the West Malling area who is neurodivergent, with a profile including PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance), Autism, ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorder.
This is a unique opportunity to work closely with a bright, energetic, engaging and articulate young person who has a big personality, wide-ranging interests and can thrive with the right kind of support and understanding.
About the Role:
This role focuses on a high degree of fun - enabling social engagement, supporting emotional regulation, and encouraging participation in a range of community and interest-based activities, including:
• Visiting museums and exhibitions
• Exploring nature, animals and the outside world.
• Engaging in sports and physical activities
• Navigating social situations and helping build confidence in social environments
To achieve all of the above the candidate will need to build a high level of trust and a feeling of safety. You’ll play a vital part in helping this young person feel safe, understood, and respected – particularly when navigating situations where emotional expression may differ from typical expectations. It will be essential to navigate and nurture this relationship in a non-emotive and confident manner, in order to avoid triggering a shame response. You’ll also be in regular contact with the family, so clear, respectful communication is key.
About You We’re looking for someone who:
• Has solid experience supporting young people with Autism, ADHD, and ideally PDA
• Understands the importance of emotional safety and co-regulation
• Can think creatively and flexibly to adapt to needs in the moment
• Has a bubbly, fun and confident personality yet has a warm grounded, calm energy and can remain regulated during moments of stress
• Is proactive and encouraging, without being directive or controlling
• Is open to building genuine rapport and mutual respect over time
You’ll also need to:
• Have a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance
• Be able to work in and around the Kings Hill / West Malling area
• Be willing to be part of a small supportive team, sharing relevant updates and developments as needed
Nice to Have:
• Experience supporting young people with high anxiety, trauma and demand avoidance
• Training in low arousal approaches, co-regulation, or trauma-informed practice
Hours are:
• 6 hours per week term time
• 10 hours per week non term time
Competitive hourly rate:
• £25 per hour for employed PA (holiday pay included)
• £40 per hour for self employed PA
If you’d like to apply or find out more, please get in touch with a short introduction about yourself, your experience, and why you think you’d be a good fit for this role.
