About The Role

Bristol City Women is an ambitious club with a clear vision to compete at the highest levels of women’s football. As we continue to build our championship-winning culture and develop world class facilities at our Robins High Performance Centre, we are committed to excellence in every aspect of our operation.

We are seeking an experienced, knowledgeable and innovative medical professional with elite sport experience to join our women’s team medical department. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking organisation that prioritises player welfare, performance optimisation, and cutting-edge sports medicine practices. You will play a crucial role in supporting our talented squad as we strive to achieve our goals both in the Women’s Championship and in FA cup competition.

The successful candidate will join a dedicated medical team that shares our passion for excellence and our commitment to providing the very best care for our athletes. We believe that outstanding medical support is fundamental to unlocking player potential and achieving sustained success on the pitch.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Match Coverage

* Provide direct medical care to Women’s First Team players and staff during training, matches, and weekly clinics
* Work alongside the first team medical department to manage injuries, including decisions on referrals for investigations and specialist opinions
* Attend all home matches throughout the season and pre-season
* Attend a minimum of one full clinical session per week
* On weeks without home games, either travel with the team or attend an additional on-site clinic day
* Be available remotely for illness queries and willing to provide out-of-hours consultation

Medical Leadership & Strategy

* Lead clinician for diagnosing illnesses in players and football staff
* Participate in and support the club’s female athlete health strategy
* Lead the club’s concussion strategy and sign off on all players
* Work with senior medical staff on clinical governance including cardiac screening, medicine management, emergency action plans, concussion diagnosis and GRPT oversight

Screening & Prevention

* Support medical and performance departments in screening, injury prevention and recovery strategies
* Work with medical, performance and nutrition staff to deliver comprehensive blood screening and supplementation programmes as part of illness prevention
* Participate in pre-signing player medicals, including cardiac and blood screening as necessary

Administrative & Compliance

* Maintain accurate medical records in accordance with GMC standards
* Ensure UKAD compliance and act as Clean Sport Advisor
* Manage on-site drug storage and ordering alongside nominated physiotherapist
* Ensure emergency medical equipment is present, stocked and in date
* Attend medical team meetings and CPD sessions, presenting one session per season Academy Support
* By referral, consult on PGA (U21, U16, U14) academy players for issues beyond physiotherapy/sports therapy scope, including concussion management
* Support senior medical staff with academy clinical governance

Professional Development

* Commitment to continuing CPD and staying current with latest evidence in football medicine


About The Candidate

Qualifications and Skills

Essential Requirements

* Full GMC registration and license to practice
* Current Level 5 ATMMIF qualification (or equivalent from another sport, with expectation to achieve ATMMIF within 6 months)
* Annual ATMMIF-R reaccreditation attendance
* Diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine or equivalent/higher qualification approved by The Football Association (or working towards this qualification)
* UKAD Clean Sport Advisor certification
* Complete FootballHER certification within first six months of appointment

Desirable Requirements

* Experience working in elite women’s sport
* Pitch rehabilitation experience
