Position: Help Shape the Future of Chemical and Process Engineering

* Are you passionate about knowledge‑sharing, collaboration and supporting a global professional community?
* Do you enjoy working with volunteers, technical experts and international networks?
* Would you like to help the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) advance the profession and its impact on society?

IChemE is the global professional body for chemical, biochemical and process engineers. Through our members, volunteers and partners, we support the profession’s contribution to major global challenges - from climate change to resource efficiency, health, safety and sustainable development.

We are now looking for a Knowledge & Networks Officer to join our team and help drive forward IChemE’s knowledge priorities.

Requirements

* Coordinating events, webinars, reports and other knowledge resources.
* Working closely with Special Interest Groups, committees and volunteers to support impactful, future‑focused activity.
* Helping to deliver world‑leading technical content that supports professional practice and societal benefit.
* Ensuring IChemE’s knowledge activity aligns with our strategy and the priorities of the Learned Society Committee.
* Supporting the delivery and promotion of IChemE’s medals and prizes, helping celebrate excellence and raise the profile of chemical engineering.
* Line management responsibilities and modest budget responsibility.

This is a highly collaborative role where you’ll work with subject matter experts, international partners and colleagues across IChemE. It offers a unique opportunity to develop experience in stakeholder management, technical engagement, knowledge curation and professional community coordination.

About You

* A minimum of degree‑level qualification (science or engineering background).
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
* The ability to build positive relationships and work confidently with volunteers and technical experts.
* Excellent organisation, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple activities.
* A proactive mindset and a positive, “can‑do” approach.
* Experience working with committees, volunteer groups or membership organisations is an advantage.

If you want to

* Support a global community of chemical and process engineers who are tackling some of the world’s biggest challenges.
* Work collaboratively with passionate volunteers, technical experts and professionals across industry and academia.
* Help shape how IChemE shares knowledge, celebrates excellence, and strengthens its voice across the profession.

We would like to hear from you – apply now.

Other Information

This is a full‑time, permanent or fixed‑term opportunity (37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday), based at our IChemE offices in Rugby. You’ll enjoy a varied role with the chance to travel and attend key events across the UK, working at the heart of a vibrant professional community.

As an international organisation, IChemE’s activities span multiple time zones and cultural contexts. You must be willing to travel and participate in events outside standard working hours, and liaise with global colleagues to meet strategic goals.

Starting salary will be £33,800 (depending on experience) plus benefits which includes an excellent pension scheme.

The closing date for all applications is midnight 3 May 2026. IChemE reserves the right to interview exceptional candidates and make an offer of employment before the closing date should we wish.

* Annual performance reviews
* Training and development opportunities
* Company contributory pension scheme that matches employee contributions by 1.5 times up to a maximum capped 12% employer contribution
* Life assurance linked to being an active member of the pension scheme
* 28 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) for full time members of staff
