MacKenzie King are excited to be recruiting an Accounts Assistant for a long-established, ambitious and growing manufacturing and distribution business, with a HQ in Leiston and an office in Ipswich. The Accounts Assistant will support the day-to-day financial activity, working closely with the Finance Manager and colleagues across the team. Key responsibilities include accurate transaction processing and assistance with month end routines. The successful candidate will be someone with a drive to progress further and develop themselves professionally.
Key tasks and responsibilities
* Process supplier invoices, ensuring correct coding and timely payment.
* Reconcile supplier statements and resolve invoice discrepancies.
* Raise customer invoices and ensure accurate, timely allocations of remittances.
* Assist with credit control tasks, including payment chasing and account queries.
* Maintain accurate financial records and filing systems.
* Assist with bank reconciliations and cash allocation.
* Update and maintain spreadsheets, ledgers, and accounting databases.
* Support the preparation of VAT returns and other regulatory filings.
* Support the preparation of SIF reconciliations.
* Support the finance team to manage the cash planning model.
* Assist with month-end journal preparation (accruals, prepayments, stock adjustments).
* Support the Finance Manager with management accounts preparation.
* Compile reports on spend, costs, and financial KPIs relevant to manufacturing and supply operations.
* Collaborate with the manufacturing and logistics teams to reconcile stock movement data.
* Help track costings for production and imported materials.
* Handle finance-related queries from suppliers, customers, and internal teams.
* Contribute to the improvement of finance processes and controls.
Qualifications and experience
* Experience in an accounting or finance administrative role.
* Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, or similar).
* Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUP, PivotTables beneficial).
* Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
* Strong organisational and communication skills.
* AAT Level 2 or above (or studying towards it).
* Familiarity with UK VAT requirements.
