Resident Welfare Officer
Annual salary: up to £28,917.00 per annum, plus a company car.
Location: Bradford, Huddersfield, Doncaster, Barnsley, and Halifax.
Contract: Full‑time, FTC.
We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Resident Welfare Officers to help vulnerable individuals avoid homelessness and move into settled accommodation.
About the role
This field‑based role involves administrative, practical, and supportive tasks, requiring strong organisation and communication skills. It includes providing hands‑on pastoral, floating support to service users, managing interim accommodation, and navigating pathways to stable housing. A full UK driving licence and a company car are required.
What you’ll be doing
* Conduct face‑to‑face support sessions covering health, finance, repairs, and the move‑on process.
* Identify and report safeguarding concerns.
* Keep detailed records and report incidents as required.
* Manage your own diary efficiently and work independently.
* Oversee a portfolio of properties, ensuring maintenance and repairs are reported and completed.
* Carry out general cleaning and ensure quick turnaround of properties when service users move out.
* Check completed maintenance work and plan further support needs.
* Assist service users with appointments and other essential tasks.
* Arrange food parcels and other necessities.
* Maintain strong working relationships with probation services, liaising at least weekly.
Role criteria
* Experience working with vulnerable individuals or in a housing/welfare support role.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills for face‑to‑face and/email interactions.
* Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining a high standard of service.
* A proactive, compassionate, and empathetic approach to problem‑solving.
* Full UK driving licence (company car provided).
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently.

Driving requirements
To drive a Mears vehicle, you must be aged over 21, have held your licence for more than 3 months, and have fewer than 9 points.
Background checks
As part of the recruitment process for this role, we will carry out a Background, Identity, Security clearance & BPSS check. Identification, proof of address, references, a valid passport and proof that you have lived in the UK for the last five years will be required.
