Duties Description Duties of the Associate Economist (Labor Research) include but are not limited to:
• Plan workload, set priorities, implement procedures, provide training, prepare rating, and assure
adherence to attendance rules.
• Remain available through text or email for supervisory staff & Communications office.
• Identify LMI user needs and develop products to satisfy those needs. Maintain a high degree of visibility.
• May participate in committee meetings, speaking engagements, news conferences or seminars.
• Answer inquiries with publicly available data.
• Remain up to date on current changes to a variety of labor statistics.
• Assure the preparation/review of required Information under the various BLS cooperative agreements
(CES, LAUS, OES,, & state-funded programs, including monthly estimates & annual revisions of data.
• Implement procedural changes.
• Provide technical directions for staff and provide quality information.
• Assure the preparation of all required reports in final draft and keep regional website accurate and up to
date.
• Assure that all reports meet quality standards and due dates. Review and edit as necessary.
• Conduct staff training in availability, development and use of LMI. Identify staff needs for centralized or
specialized training.
• Remain familiar with data from BLS programs, Census and their appropriate uses.

Current Department of Labor employees only, with at least one year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service in an Associate Economist (Labor Research), Grade 23; if you have less than one year, you must be reachable on the current Associate Economist (Labor Research) eligible list for this location, if one
exists.
52.7 Non-Competitive Promotion (NCP) Qualifications: (DOL Employees Only)
To be eligible for NCP, candidates must be in the Department of Labor promotion field and have one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent or 55 b/c service as a Senior Economist, Senior Economist (Environmental Impact), or a Senior Economist (Labor Research). If 3 or fewer qualified Department of Labor Senior Economist, Senior Economist (Environmental Impact), or Senior Economist (Labor Research) respond to this posting, Civil Service may approve the permanent appointment of one of the qualified Senior Economist, Senior Economist (Environmental Impact), or Senior Economist (Labor Research) without further examination. Note: Non-competitive refers to not competing in an examination; the appointment will be competitive.
70.1 Transfer Qualifications:
One year of permanent or contingent-permanent service as a Grade 21 or higher determined to be similar by Civil Service.

Provisional Qualifications: (DOL Employees Only)
Candidates with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent or 55 b/c service as a Senior Economist, Senior Economist (Environmental Impact), Senior Economist (Labor Research); or Senior Statistician may apply. The appointed candidate would have to take, pass and be reachable on the next holding of the examination to be appointed permanently.
