Role
The main role for the Health Visitor (HV) is to be the designated named HV for all children within their caseload from antenatal to school entry age, excluding the unborn child. The HV commences the child’s planning process and monitors the child’s wellbeing, assessing if a need is identified. The HV works in partnership with the child’s family and all involved agencies to produce, implement and monitor a child’s plan that ensures the child’s needs are met and desired outcomes are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake statutory duties on behalf of NHS Lanarkshire with respect to individual children within your caseload to assess, improve and support the wellbeing of children.
* Work with all professionals involved with the child or young person and their families to assess, analyse, develop and agree a multi‑agency child’s plan based on the agreed policies and procedures, implementing and monitoring the plan to ensure the child’s needs are met.
* Collaborate with families, other agencies and key stakeholders to ensure all parties undertake their responsibilities within the agreed plan.
* Receive wellbeing concerns from partner agencies or community members, analyse information, and, if required, instigate Child Protection procedures. Escalate concerns to line and professional managers as per policies and professional standards.
Qualifications and Experience
* Registered nurse or midwife at degree level or equivalent.
* Post‑registration qualification in Health Visiting/Public Health Nursing and be registered on Part 3 of the NMC register.
* Educated to Masters level in a relevant nursing area, or
* Demonstrated equivalent knowledge gained through completion of NES modules on Assessment, Leadership, and Critical Thinking.
* Ability to advise using significant understanding and application of legislation relating to information sharing, data storage and public protection.
* Full UK/EU/EEA driving licence required.
Contract Details
This is a fixed‑term post from 31 August 2026 to 6 September 2027. Where the post is funded only temporarily and an existing NHS Lanarkshire staff member wishes to apply, the application will be treated as a secondment. The employee must already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on secondment before applying for the post.
