What You'll Do as Our Senior BMS (Dissection) Lead Lead our dissection services - You'll take full responsibility for our dissection laboratory, ensuring we deliver exceptional clinical outcomes whilst developing cutting-edge techniques. Complete laboratory expertise - You'll handle the full specimen workflow from accessioning through to digitisation, applying your technical skills across all laboratory sections Apply your advanced dissection expertise across the complete spectrum of specimens - from RCPath category A, B and C through to complex category D & E cases. Senior dissection leadership - You'll oversee all technical operations, and establish yourself as the go-to expert for complex dissection challenges SOP development and compliance - You'll create and maintain standard operating procedures for our dissection laboratory, ensuring full compliance with RCPath guidelines and regulatory standards Team development and mentoring - You'll supervise junior staff, deliver specialist training, and assess competencies whilst deputising for the Laboratory Director Technical innovation - You'll develop and validate new dissection procedures, working with our CMO to advance tissue labelling and digitisation techniques Quality management - You'll implement quality control measures, prepare for UKAS audits, and ensure all dissection activities meet regulatory standards Specialist consultation - You'll provide expert advice to service users and collaborate with pathologists, clinical trial managers, and research teams Meeting leadership and reporting - You'll prepare and present detailed reports whilst facilitating and chairing laboratory and departmental meetings What You'll Need Essential senior-level requirements: HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist IBMS Higher Specialist Portfolio or Masters degree (preferred) 5 years experience in histology, dissection, special stains, embedding and microtomy Proven dissection expertise across all specimen complexities with documented competency and CPD compliance UKAS accredited laboratory experience including audit preparation Leadership capabilities to mentor staff and manage high-quality laboratory services Advanced technical skills you'll use: Complex troubleshooting across all laboratory equipment and sections Statistical software, data visualisation tools and database management Method development, validation and optimisation of laboratory procedures Quality control and assurance implementation and maintenance Laboratory method development, validation and optimisation Senior leadership qualities: Ability to work autonomously for extended periods whilst supervising others Strong analytical thinking to interpret clinical significance of findings Excellent communication skills to convey complex concepts to diverse stakeholders Collaborative approach to multidisciplinary healthcare teams Note: This job description is not exhaustive but an indication of the type and range of tasks that are expected of the postholder, and other duties may be required, in line with the role.
