Following intensive research with patients, families, and clinicians, we have launched our ambitious 5-year roadmap. A key pillar of this new chapter is our commitment to wellbeing, leading to the launch of our brand-new Linc Charity Counselling Service.


The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and qualified Counsellor to launch and shape this vital service during its initial 6-month trial. This is a unique opportunity to build a tailored therapeutic offer, with the potential to scale and expand the service based on the pilot’s findings.

Hours per week

15 hours per week split between two counsellors to be worked flexibility around patient need


Pay

Face-to-face counselling is billable at £60 per hour, while additional meetings are compensated at a rate of £20 per hour


Location

Linc Charity Office
Primarily at Linc Charity Office, Patch, 5-7 Cathedral Walk, The Forum, Gloucester GL1 1DF. Remote work and online appointments to fit around patients and families requirements


Contract

6 months to end of pilot with the aim for continuous contract after successful pilot period


Job Summary

To provide high-quality, autonomous therapeutic support to patients diagnosed with blood cancer and their families. This role requires a specialist understanding of the unique psychological impacts of haematological cancers, including long‑term uncertainty, treatment intensity, and bone marrow transplant recovery.


Key Responsibilities

* Caseload Management: Independently manage a caseload of patients and family members, providing one-to-one therapy using integrative or specialist modalities (e.g. CBT, ACT, or Person‑Centred).
* Assessment: Work with Haematology Clinical Staff to support initial psychological assessments to identify complex needs, risk, and suitability for counselling interventions. Continue to review suitability during counselling programme while working closely with Haematology Clinical Staff and Charity Team.
* Multi‑Disciplinary Liaison: Liaise with medical and nursing staff (Haematologists, CNSs) about counselling needs. Liaise with Linc Clinical Psychologist around client suitability for counselling.
* Service Development: Support the charity in developing this service during its 6‑month pilot and launch of service providing counselling packages tailored to blood cancer patients and their families.
* Confidentiality: Take responsibility for ensuring the security and confidentiality of all client records and other confidential information (either paper form or electronic).
* Safeguarding: Be responsible for determining when it is appropriate to share sensitive information (e.g. safeguarding concerns) and share only what is necessary and relevant, seeking informed consent from client if possible.
* Impact: Take responsibility for overseeing, maintaining and collating data for reports regarding counselling and impact assessment.
* Professional Standards: Maintain registration with the BACP or UKCP and adhere to their ethical frameworks.
* Supervision & CPD: The post‑holder will be required to undergo supervision from a nominated Clinical Supervisor in line with BACP requirements and will be responsible for arranging and maintaining a record of this supervision. Attend and participate in Linc Charity specific training and service review sessions in partnership with the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.


Person Specification

* Qualifications: Diploma or Degree in Counselling/Psychotherapy and Professional Accreditation (BACP/UKCP/HCPC).
* Experience: Proven experience in support around health care conditions. Ideally oncology or haematology patients within the charity or private sector.
* Knowledge: Deep understanding of the emotional cycles of cancer/health conditions: diagnosis shock, treatment‑related trauma, fear of recurrence, and palliative care.
* Skills: Ability to communicate highly sensitive information in emotive atmospheres, protecting confidentiality while managing complex professional boundaries.
* Effective and highly developed interpersonal skills (e.g. empathy, congruence, unconditional positive regard and acceptance in a therapeutic manner).
* Ability to work autonomously and as an effective member of a wider team.
* Effective communication skills.
* Ability to build rapport with a wide range of people and work at relational depth.
