Clinical Support Worker AMU ( CIC )

The closing date is 14 January 2026

Band 3 – 69 hours available

An exciting opportunity to work in the AMU at the Cumberland Infirmary. The AMU covers cardiology, respiratory, gastro, elderly care, haematology and renal.

Main duties of the job

Support the registered nursing team in providing fundamentals of care. Undertake the Care Certificate to enhance knowledge and care provision.

The role requires working days, nights and weekends.

Essential criteria: Care Certificate or willingness and ability to undertake this.

Qualifications

* Level 3 vocational qualification or short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties.
* Theoretical knowledge
* Experience of a range of care and related procedures
* Clinical observations
* Knowledge of data protection legislation and health and safety at work legislation
* National care certificate or commitment to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment
* Numeracy and literacy level 2
* Undertaken relevant additional training for clinical support workers care (willingness to complete within one year of start date) or equivalent experience


Knowledge and Experience

* Experience in health and social care
* Experience of undertaking and recording clinical observations and escalating changes or findings
* Working knowledge of legislation underpinning care provision
* Understanding of the importance of robust, accurate, clear and timely documentation
* Insight into behaviours and skills of a carer and the need for effective teamwork
* Knowledge of safeguarding
* Understanding work‑related boundaries
* Awareness of GDPR and confidentiality
* Familiarity with current NHS and social care policies
* Clinical policies and procedures
* Evidence of understanding of trust business
* Experience of working in the trust previously


Skills and Aptitudes

* Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to adopt appropriate styles and methods of communication.
* Time‑keeping, planning and prioritisation skills.
* Basic IT skills to use electronic patient records and other trust systems.
* Analytical and judgement skills to make decisions based on service user interactions, observations and metrics.
* Ability to demonstrate the importance of patient‑centred care and related procedures.
* Attention to detail and initiative.
* Demonstrate compassionate values and behaviours needed for dignified care.
* Desire to encourage and support patients to remain independent. Pro‑active approach.
* Ability to deal with a wide range of people at all levels including patients, carers, families and MDT members.
* Caring and empathetic with personal resilience.
* Work calmly and effectively under pressure presenting a courteous, respectful and helpful professional image.
* Reliable, dependable and adaptable.

Personal Circumstances

* Willing to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and bank holidays
* Flexible and versatile approach to meet service needs.
* Ability to travel between sites, attend meetings or training off‑site.
