We have an exciting opportunity for a well organised and self‑motivated Schools Engagement Officer based at the Peterlee Campus (with an expectation that you will be able to work across all 3 sites) on a Full Time Basis.
Main Duties of the Role
As a Schools Engagement Officer, you will support East Durham College’s work in building strong, positive and productive relationships with schools and community partners across the region. You will enthusiastically focus on raising awareness of the College’s study options, including 16-18 programmes, our specialist land-based provision at Houghall, technical and vocational routes, T Levels and apprenticeships, energise young people and drive increased applications and conversion to enrolment.
You will confidently deliver high-quality information, advice and guidance (IAG), engaging presentations, interactive outreach activities and well‑organised school and community events. You will have a crucial role within a small team of ensuring young people, parents and advisers have an accurate and inspiring understanding of the opportunities available at East Durham College.
You will hold a minimum Level 3 qualification or higher and ideally have some experience working within the FE sector, or more widely with young people aged 11-18. You will be motivated by working towards targets and driven by a focus on providing young people with the best possible information so they can make truly informed decisions. You will be a skilled communicator, equally comfortable speaking to an assembly hall of teenagers, engaging in professional conversations with teachers in school and college, and conducting detailed one‑to‑one discussions with parents. The role can be fast‑paced and diverse and therefore excellent organisational and team‑working skills are essential. This can be a very rewarding role and your ability to relate to young people can be the start of their journey to a successful next step and onwards towards university, apprenticeships or employment in the long run.
