Role Requirements

Reporting to the Senior Engineer, the Electrician will use their vast experience, skill, and knowledge from previous roles to deliver exceptional electrical maintenance to the estate, ensuring the efficient operation and safety of all electrical systems and associated items in compliance with current standards and regulations.

In addition to your primary responsibilities, you will also be responsible for conducting Portable Appliance Testing (PAT), quarterly RCD functionality checks, monthly emergency light tests, and an annual drop test on the estate's electrical systems. You will also generate minor works and electrical installation certificates for completed tasks.

Further tasks include those assigned through the help desk, ensuring a dynamic workload. You will support normal operations of the organisation, assist with supervision and monitoring of external contractors, and perform any other duties that may be required.

The role holder will participate in a 7‑day shift rota and out-of-hours call‑out to ensure a 24/7 coverage of the estate, providing reciprocal cover for the maintenance and logistics department.

Perform electrical work across the site as specified through the maintenance helpdesk and report progress back to the help desk. Install wiring and systems as required.

Lamp, socket changes and LED upgrade programme.

Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures around the estate.

Regularly inspect electrical systems, components, and equipment for safety, functionality, and compliance with regulations.

Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues, recommending and implementing appropriate solutions.

Be accustomed to working with and terminating steel-wired armour (SWA).

Add/Install new external lights, dig trenches to correct depth for SWA.

Plan, complete, and certify electrical installations within regulatory guidance.

Coordinate with other tradespeople and contractors to ensure timely completion of electrical work within project timelines.

Keep accurate records of work performed, including maintenance logs, inspection reports, and installation documentation.

Conduct periodic inspections and testing of electrical systems to identify and address potential issues proactively.

Meter reading recording and monitoring.

Adhere to health and safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards at all times.

Respond promptly to service calls and emergency situations, resolving electrical problems efficiently.

Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and others to provide updates on project progress and address any concerns.

Install, maintain and repair electrical systems, including power, heating, lighting, security systems, generators and renewable energy technologies.

Install components of electrical systems such as circuit breakers, transformers, and other protective devices; test, maintain and update drawings.

Carry out or support third‑party contractors in the proactive and reactive maintenance of mechanical and electrical building services, plant and equipment.

Inspect, analyse, fault‑find, carry out repair and service electrical installations in all estate‑wide buildings both internally and externally in a professional manner and to a high standard in compliance with current regulation/legislation.

Responsible for all electrical equipment being efficiently and effectively operated, adjusting as necessary, and reporting defects or malfunctions to the Maintenance Service Manager.

Rehabilitation of Offenders

Many roles at The Children’s Trust are exempt from the provisions of Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, by virtue of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013 and 2020) and are subject to an Enhanced DBS check. Successful applicants will be required to complete an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, which will disclose all unspent convictions and adult cautions and any spent convictions or adult cautions that would not be protected. The exceptions apply to retail roles within The Children’s Trust shops, which are subject to Basic DBS checks which will disclose unspent convictions or adult cautions.
