Role Overview
Housing & Homelessness – Housing Options – Through Care Housing Advisor. Full time (35 hours), 1‑year fixed term contract, Salary Grade H.
Responsibilities
* Provide guidance and support to young individuals who have been in care in areas such as housing, education, employment, and life skills.
* Work collaboratively with social workers and personal advisors to develop personal housing plans tailored to each young person’s needs.
* Advocate for the rights and well‑being of young people in care and undertake statutory casework under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2018.
* Respond proactively to prevent and end street homelessness, addressing complex caseloads and developing creative solutions.
* Act as a self‑starter, working independently while contributing to a target‑driven team, bringing flexible and imaginative approaches to change.
Qualifications and Experience
* Good working knowledge of homelessness legislation, including the Homelessness Reduction Act 2018.
* Experience supporting care leavers with housing‑related issues and managing complex caseloads.
* Strong understanding of statutory responsibilities of local authorities and issues affecting looked‑after children and care leavers.
* Excellent communication and collaborative skills, able to work effectively within a diverse community.
* Knowledge of social care, public health and the Children’s Act, with empathy for the needs and challenges of young people.
* Previous experience working in a local authority homelessness service or voluntary homelessness sector.
