Job Title: Quality Engineer

Work Times: 8:30am to 4:30pm (Monday to Friday). A degree of flexibility will be needed at peak periods.

Job Overview
As a Quality Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining and continuously improving our AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certified Quality Management System (QMS). This role ensures our products, processes, and manufacturing operations consistently meet customer, regulatory, and safety requirements. You will support the business in driving a robust quality culture through disciplined problem solving, process optimisation, and compliance excellence.
Key Responsibilities
QMS & Compliance
· Maintain and improve the SHD QMS in alignment with AS9100 Rev D and ISO 9001:2015.
· Plan, execute, and document internal audits, including process, product and compliance audits.
· Ensure audit findings, corrective actions, and follow‑ups meet AS9100 requirements for root‑cause analysis, containment, corrective action effectiveness, and evidence control.
· Support certification, surveillance, and customer audits.
Non-Conformance / Root Cause / Corrective Action
· Lead NCR investigations using recognised methodologies (5‑Why, 8D, FMEA).
· Develop and validate robust corrective actions to eliminate recurrence.
· Maintain and improve product control limits, test specifications, and material qualification criteria
· Support investigation and resolution of process deviations.
Customer Quality
· Support customer complaint investigations and implement actions to enhance satisfaction and product reliability.
· Provide customer facing technical quality support where required.
Laboratory & Test Support
· Conduct and support routine laboratory testing of manufactured materials and incoming goods.
· Develop new test methods and improve existing procedures.
· Ensure laboratory equipment calibration and test accuracy aligns with QMS requirements.
Continuous Improvement
· Identify opportunities for process optimisation, waste reduction, and enhanced first‑time‑yield.
* Participate in or lead quality improvement projects within the SHD/Cambium group.
· Support deployment of risk‑based thinking, process capability analysis, and data-driven decision-making.
General
· Provide cross‑site quality support within the group as required.
· Deliver internal training on QMS, quality tools, and AS9100 awareness.
· Execute contract reviews in accordance with customer and regulatory expectations.
· Support Health & Safety and compliance activities.
Person Specification
Skills and Experience
· Strong working knowledge of AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015.
· Experience in manufacturing environments (composites, aerospace, chemicals, or similar).
· Skilled in root‑cause analysis, corrective action, and process auditing.
· Competent in laboratory testing, materials evaluation, and data interpretation.
· High computer literacy (QMS software, Excel, data reporting tools).
· Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross‑functionally.
· Strong attention to detail with a proactive problem-solving mindset.
Desirable
· Internal auditor or lead auditor qualification (AS9100 / ISO 9001).
· Knowledge of composite prepreg manufacturing or similar regulated processes.
· Experience with customer quality interface (aerospace OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers).
· Familiarity with PFMEA, SPC, control plans, and risk‑based quality tools.
