An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Network Engineer to support a major Software Defined Access (SDA) infrastructure programme based in Barrow-in-Furness. The position involves designing, configuring, and deploying next-generation network technologies within a secure enterprise environment. The role requires on-site attendance five days per week and includes participation in a rotational out-of-hours shift pattern typically two weeks of 16:3023:30 shifts followed by two weeks of standard daytime hours (7.5 hours per day). On offer Rate - £500 - £530 p/d - Inside IR35 Duration - runs until 31st December 2025 with possibility of extension Key Responsibilities Contribute to High-Level Design (HLD) documentation and produce detailed Low-Level Designs (LLD). Configure and implement a range of core infrastructure components, including data centre fabrics, access/distribution switches, routers, WAN, firewalls, load balancers, Wi-Fi controllers, and authentication servers. Perform impact assessments for complex or large-scale network environments. Execute testing and analysis in line with pre-determined test plans. Conduct network site surveys reviewing cabling, power, and rack space (including photographic evidence). Install and test SDA switches and associated equipment during out-of-hours windows. Support decommissioning and removal of legacy network components. Essential Skills & Experience Proven background in Network Architecture and Design (HLD/LLD). Experience working in secure or defence-related environments. Proficiency in Cisco Networking (Routing/Switching) and Data Centre Networking. Hands-on experience with: Cisco ACI Firewalls Palo Alto / Cisco Authentication 802.1x, Cisco ISE, Active Directory Load Balancing Citrix Netscaler Additional Information Candidates must hold current SC Clearance prior to starting. The assignment runs until 31 December 2025, with potential for extension.
