A little more about your role… We are seeking a Principal or Quantity Surveyor to join our Local Government team in Cardiff, supporting the delivery of a wide range of highways and infrastructure projects across the region. You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in WSP’s Local Government division and will be focused on the delivery of a variety of highways, bridges and infrastructure projects on behalf of Rhondda Cynon Taff, Bridgend and Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council. The successful award of a new contract, and the increase in service requests for construction and procurement support, means that our teams have a great pipeline of varied work to look forward to delivering. You will be working as part of a collaborative Construction Team – made up of Quantity Surveyors, Site Supervisors and NEC Project Managers, all playing an important part in delivering projects to improve local communities. You will play a pivotal role in managing the commercial aspects of projects, ensuring cost efficiency and contractual compliance throughout the project lifecycle. This is a varied role, with core responsibilities including: Preparing detailed cost estimates, budgets, and forecasts for highways and infrastructure projects. Monitor and control costs throughout the project lifecycle. Assist with preparing tender documentation, bills of quantities, and procurement strategies. Manage and administer contracts (primarily NEC forms), including handling variations, claims, and dispute resolution. Ensure compliance with contractual obligations. Prepare and present cost reports, CVRs (Cost Value Reconciliation), and financial forecasts to stakeholders. Liaise with clients, project managers, and design teams to ensure smooth delivery and resolve commercial issues promptly. Identify risks and opportunities, implementing value engineering strategies to optimise project outcomes. What we will be looking for you to demonstrate… Experience working as a Quantity Surveyor, or equivalent role, across highways or civil engineering projects. Strong knowledge of NEC contracts and commercial management processes. Excellent organisational, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. Experience with digital cost management tools and ERP systems. Professional qualifications would be desirable.
