Job Description Job Title : Manufacturing Engineer (Producibility) Submarines Working Pattern : Full time Working location: Derby (Raynesway) What you will be doing: An exciting opportunity for a Producibility Engineer (ME focussed) has arisen in New Build & Components, as part of the Vessel Engineering Producibility Team, in Rolls-Royce Defence (Submarines). As part of the Engineering Producibility Team, a ME is expected to influence new designs using New Product Introduction tools to ensure manufacturability of product designs as well as continually improving upon existing product designs and translating these into world class processes which meet business and customer requirements for Safety, Quality, Cost & Delivery. Responsibilities: With this exciting opportunity you will get a chance to be involved with the following: Generating the technical package for the shop floor for the manufacture of parts. This will include Technical Instructions, Manufacturing Stage Drawings, Production Routers etc. Use of Build in Quality tools such as Process Maps, Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (PFMEAs), and Control Plans. Technical Authority – Ensure application of manufacturing process controls Reduction in cost of non-quality across the product family. Liaison with other departments such as Design Engineering &Technology, Manufacturing, Quality, and Purchasing to ensure delivery of parts to set timescales and targeted costs. Support production to ensure product flow in the factory. Drive continuous improvements to eliminate the need for concessions and rework. Control and reduce costs to drive profitability in the factory by continuously challenging the methods of manufacture. Section Leader specific responsibilities Lead team to deliver key technical outputs meeting performance targets. Supporting/Coaching team on technical tasks Setting/managing the Ready to Launch (RTL) requirements for the team in line with the plan, monitoring risk and escalating where required, while working cross functionally to provide solutions. Working with Group Leader and Engineering Manager to focus on team and individual development. Be a technical representative for the team at meetings and be an advocate for positive change. To be successful in this role you will need to meet the following criteria: UK minimum HND/foundation degree qualified or another national equivalent or have the requisite technical experience. Recognised national or international engineering accreditation (e.g. UK IEng or CEng) is desirable Possess a general understanding of manufacturing processes relevant to the business i.e. Machining, Welding, NDE, Fabrication & Assembly and Metrology. Possess a general awareness of Manufacturing Systems (i.e. NX, Teamcentre, CAPP, SAP) relevant to the business is desirable. Have a good understanding of Engineering processes relevant to their role i.e. DfM.
