Design Assistant – Print & Embroidery
At Self-Portrait, we are looking for a motivated and detail-driven Design Assistant specialising in Print & Embroidery to join our growing Design team. This is an opportunity to contribute to the development of design-led, directional collections within a collaborative studio environment.
As Design Assistant – Print & Embroidery, you’ll support the wider Design team across both textile development and RTW design, contributing to the creation of original print and embroidery artworks from initial concept through to final delivery. You’ll be confident using Adobe Creative Suite, with a strong eye for colour, placement, and fabric, and bring an enthusiastic, proactive approach to day-to-day design work. This role is ideal for someone looking to develop their skills across print and embroidery, while also supporting the wider RTW design process.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the Design team across all stages of rtw, print and embroidery development, from initial research through to final sample execution.
* Assist in creating, reworking, recolouring, and digitalising print and embroidery artworks.
* Develop and apply print and embroidery placements across garments, ensuring alignment with design direction.
* Prepare and update detailed CADs, ensuring artwork and fabric developments are accurately represented throughout the design process.
* Assist in the creation and maintenance of tech packs and strike-off requests for print and embroidery developments, as well as the wider rtw collection.
* Liaise with external suppliers regarding artwork, placement layouts, and grading requirements.
* Conduct research and contribute to the development of print, embroidery and rtw concepts in line with seasonal direction.
* Support fittings and sample preparation where required, ensuring accuracy across artwork and placement.
* Prepare and update detailed Photoshop CADs, responding accurately and efficiently to fit and design feedback.
* Assist with day-to-day design administration across both print/embroidery development and the wider RTW process.
Requirements
* BA or equivalent qualification in Fashion Design, Textiles or a related discipline
* Entry-level - 1 years’ experience (including internships) within contemporary, premium, or luxury womenswear or textiles.
* Strong understanding of the Self-Portrait aesthetic and brand identity
* Confident user of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
* Strong eye for print, colour, placement, and textile detail
* Understanding of fabric bases and embroidery or print techniques.
* Strong research skills with attention to detail.
* Positive, proactive attitude with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
* Highly organised and comfortable managing multiple tasks
* Must be eligible to work in the UK.
