Finance Manager (Standalone Role)
Location: Nottinghamshire (Hybrid Working)
Salary: £42,000 £52,000 + benefits
A growing construction businessis seeking a hands-on Finance Manager to take full responsibility for its finance function. This is a standalone role offering significant autonomy and the opportunity to play a key part in supporting the continued growth of the business.
This position would suit an experienced and proactive finance professional who enjoys operating in a broad, all-encompassing role within an SME environment.
The Role
The Finance Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the finance function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong financial controls, and meaningful insight to support decision-making across the business.
Key responsibilities include:
Production of monthly management accounts and associated reporting
Preparation of quarterly forecasts, cash flow projections, and P&L reviews
Full ownership of month-end processes including accruals, prepayments, and journals
Management of accounts payable and receivable, including reconciliations and payments
Bank and general ledger reconciliations
VAT reconciliations and submissions
Project accounting, including cost tracking, revenue recognition, and budget comparisons
Preparation of monthly payroll and staff expenses
Liaising with external auditors and leading the year-end audit process
Supporting operational teams with financial information and analysis
Driving process improvements across finance and wider business operations
The Person
The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently and taking full ownership of the finance function within a small business environment.
They will demonstrate:
Proven experience in a similar role
Strong technical accounting knowledge and attention to detail
Experience producing management accounts and overseeing end-to-end finance processes
Confidence in communicating financial information to non-finance stakeholders
A hands-on, proactive, and problem-solving approach
Knowledge of XERO
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
Experience within the construction sector or project-based environments would be advantageous but not essential.
Candidates may be qualified (ACCA/CIMA/ACA), part-qualified, or qualified by experience (QBE).
