Job Title: Senior Design Engineer (HV Cables)

Part of Murphy Applied Engineering in Kentish Town, London.
Murphy is recruiting for a Senior Design Engineer (HV Cables) to work with our Applied Engineering team in Kentish Town, London. Our engineering teams represent a multi-disciplined range of skills, adding value across all sectors and delivering intelligent, sustainable and economical engineering solutions through digital construction, engineering innovation and design. Under Murphy Applied Engineering, our in-house teams include civil, structural, mechanical, geotechnical and process engineers who design both permanent and temporary works for projects and provide expert advice to Murphy colleagues and external customers.
Responsibilities
* Developing HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design and design review, estimation, site supervision and support as required.
* Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
* Prepare plant and equipment technical specifications, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports.
* Ensure correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions involved in the projects; attend and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
* Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, TMF and EMF calculations, sheath-induced voltage calculations and related tasks.
* Ensure all project designs are compliant with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures.
* Ensure that drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction; formally request any missing information in time to avoid delays in the programme.
Qualifications
* Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
* Detail design experience of HV cabling projects.
* Co-ordination of HV Cable Works design and interfaces throughout project lifecycle, including development of drawings and calculations.
* Understanding of the commercial and technical issues in undertaking a large-scale construction project.
* Ability and confidence to discuss engineering issues with people across various levels and disciplines.
