Job Overview
We are looking for a Band 6 Cardiac Physiologist to join the Cardiac Investigations Unit. Candidates should have good experience in cardiology procedures and be willing to progress their career in either Pacing and Electrophysiology or Echocardiography.
Responsibilities
* Diagnostic angiography: monitor and record cardiac physiological measurements during the procedure, perform first‑line resuscitation with defibrillation, and assist in the insertion of balloon pumps and temporary pacing wires.
* Interventional angiography (PCI, stenting, rotablation, PMR, angiojet, intravascular ultrasound, pressure wire): monitor and record measurements, keep the physician fully informed of any clinical changes, and prepare clinical reports.
* Permanent pacemaker implantation: record accurate lead‑function tests, guide secure implantation of pacing leads, document results, and inform the attending physician of any faults or problems. Provide patient support throughout the procedure.
* Routine implantable device follow‑up: independently record lead‑function tests, make clinical decisions for basic reprogramming of pacemakers, document measurements, and inform the physician of any faults or problems.
* Analysis of 12‑lead ECG and ambulatory ECG recordings: produce factual reports that may influence clinical management.
* Exercise stress testing and cardiopulmonary exercise services: as lead Cardiac Physiologist, produce a technical report of accurate recordings, communicate effectively with patients, and provide training to junior staff under supervision.
* Tilt testing: work alongside doctors, monitor and record cardiac physiological measurements, respond quickly to emergencies, and perform resuscitation if necessary.
* Participation in the on‑call rota for PPCI, emergency angiography, interventional cardiology, pacemaker implantation, implantable device checks, and other urgent procedures.
* Supervision and training of junior staff in all aspects of invasive and non‑invasive cardiac procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
* Minimum of a BSc in clinical physiology or an equivalent qualification.
* Demonstrated experience in cardiology procedures and a willingness to develop further skills in pacing & electrophysiology or echocardiography.
* Ability to work unsupervised in most areas and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
* Training plans provided by the training manager to address any gaps in experience.
