Assistant Headteacher – SEND & Inclusion (with SENCO responsibilities)

Salary: Up to £43,000 per annum (not pro rata) | 40 hours per week | Monday to Friday 8am - 4pm | Permanent, Term Time Only | Start date: January 2026
We are excited to announce a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Headteacher to join our dedicated team at Options Barton School, part of Options Autism and the wider Outcomes First Group. This role will focus on SEND and Inclusion, including fulfilling SENCO responsibilities.
About The Role
As Assistant Headteacher for SEND & Inclusion, you will play a key role in supporting the Head of School to deliver high-quality education across the school. You will lead on SEND policy and provision, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and the SEND Code of Practice, while fulfilling SENCO responsibilities such as overseeing EHCPs, personalised learning intentions, and intervention strategies. Alongside this, you will model excellent classroom practice with a teaching commitment of up to 50%, act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (with training provided), and work closely with the clinical and pastoral teams to secure the best outcomes for our pupils. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute strategically to the growth of the school while making a tangible difference to the lives of young people.
Essential Criteria
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
* SENCO qualification (or willingness to complete in post)
* Evidence of recent professional development
* Experience of working with pupils with Autism and complex needs
* Strong leadership, training, and team development skills
* Excellent communication and report writing abilities
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare
* Resilience, adaptability, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

Options Barton School is an independent special school for children and young people aged 8–19 with Autism (ASC), Learning Difficulties (LD), and Complex Needs. Located in Barton-upon-Humber, North Lincolnshire, we are within easy reach of Scunthorpe, Doncaster, Hull, and surrounding towns. For over 16 years Options Autism have provided care and education to pupils and adults with autism, complex needs and learning difficulties. 4DWW: You’ll work 80% of your contractual hours for 100% of your pay, giving you more time. 4DWW is subject to successful completion of probation and is not a contractual benefit.
