Link Consultants are delighted to be working with a leading engineering services contractor in Europe who are expanding our planning team to support the delivery of complex, high voltage (HV) substation and transmission projects across Scotland and beyond.
This role is for an experienced Project Planner who understands the sequencing, risks, and logistics of electrical infrastructure builds, particularly substations (110kV–400kV).
Key Functions of the Project Planner
* Review Contract documentation and highlight key schedule and tracking requirements
* Develop Construction schedule based on high level target schedule and WBS received from Project manager
* Support in client schedule negotiations
* Labour & Metrics load the schedule based on hours & quantities received from the Commercial Team
* Develop the required Trackers and Reporting templates
* Develop fully integrated construction schedule in conjunction with the Main Contractor and Project Manager
* Measure & track weekly progress and efficiency in consultation with the Site Team and validate this formally with the Commercial Team every 2 / 3 weeks
* Highlight potential risks and roadblocks to the project team and lead planner on an ongoing basis
Project Planner Responsibilities
In conjunction with your project team, you will be responsible for the execution of various stages of a project as follows:
* Develop and manage integrated Level 1–4 programmes using Primavera P6 or MS Project
* Track project milestones across civil, electrical, commissioning, and grid interface phases
* Support construction phasing, resource levelling, and critical path identification
* Lead schedule reviews and provide regular updates to internal and client stakeholders
* Align project timelines with procurement, outage planning, and commissioning schedules
* Assist with EPC contract planning obligations (e.g., NEC, FIDIC reporting)
* Support risk analysis, scenario planning, and delay recovery strategies
Necessary requirement of the Project Planner
* 3rd level qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or strong trades background coupled with technical ability will be considered.
* 3–5+ years' experience as a planner in energy, utilities, or substation projects.
* Solid understanding of HV/MV construction methods and interface management.
* Proficient in Primavera P6 (mandatory); familiarity with Power BI a plus.
* Working knowledge of NEC, FIDIC, or DBO frameworks.
* Strong analytical and communication skills with a collaborative mindset.
