The Eating Disorder Service in Suffolk is split over two bases with shared resources across the region. The Consultant post in the East will provide consultation and cover for the West Suffolk teams when needed.
The service receives referrals from GPs and other agencies. Assessments are conducted by Mental Health Practitioners (MHPs), with involvement from the Consultant for specific clinical reasons. Cases are coordinated by MHPs with input from the team, including the Consultant as required. The Consultant is not expected to carry a caseload but to provide specialist medical support to the team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will serve as a senior professional, providing advanced expertise and clinical leadership, aligning with the Trust’s strategic objectives and acting as an ambassador externally. The post holder must always adhere to the Nolan Principles and Standards of Business Conduct.
As a clinical leader, the post holder should demonstrate leadership qualities as outlined in the Medical Leadership Competency Framework.

Psychiatric assessment of patients with Eating Disorders and other psychiatric conditions, leading medical assessments, liaising with multidisciplinary teams, implementing national and local guidelines, ensuring compliance with service directives, utilizing outcome measures, offering therapeutic interventions, supervising colleagues, managing comorbidities, and participating in out-of-hours services.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential: GMC registration, approved clinician status, Section 12(2) approval, Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCST.
Experience
Essential: 3 years or equivalent medical experience, 6 months relevant clinical experience, knowledge of diagnosis and management of complex mental illnesses.
Attributes
Essential: Teamwork, leadership, flexibility, independent travel ability, research skills.
Clinical Governance
Essential: Understanding of clinical governance, commitment to practice review.
Teaching
