Accounts Assistant (Fixed Term Contract)
Location: City Centre Edinburgh
Contract Type: 9-Month FTC (Maternity Cover)
Salary: £28,000-£32,000 per annum (DOE) - PAYE Equivalent
Hours: 4-5 days per week, office-based
Start Date: Mid-November 2025

The Opportunity
Due to maternity leave, the company is seeking an Accounts Assistant to join their small finance team on a fixed-term basis for a minimum of nine months. You'll work closely with the Finance Director and play a key role in managing the day-to-day finance operations.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a varied, all-round finance role within an SME setting and takes pride in ensuring things run smoothly behind the scenes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Processing and managing purchase ledger transactions
2. Supporting credit control activities and issuing customer statements
3. Managing weekly and monthly payroll, including commission calculations
4. Performing bank reconciliations, maintaining cash books, and managing petty cash
5. Preparing weekly finance overview sheets and assisting with month-end tasks
6. Supporting with credit notes and damaged goods claims
7. Using Sage for accounting and an internal retail system (training provided)
8. Occasional office management duties, including stationery and spend control
About You
We're looking for someone who brings both experience and energy - someone who thrives in a varied role where no two days are the same.
Essential skills and experience:
9. Proven experience in an Accounts Assistant or similar all-round finance role
10. Proficient in Sage accounting software
11. Experience across purchase ledger, credit control, and payroll
12. Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
13. Strong interpersonal skills with a proactive and resilient approach
Desirable:
14. Experience working in a retail, construction, or small business environment
15. Knowledge of commission-based payroll
