Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking a dynamic, dedicated Consultant Obstetrician with a special interest in maternal medicine to join the expanding Women’s Health team at Newham University Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a forward-thinking, patient-centred service within one of the UK’s most diverse communities.

About the Role:


You will be expected to provide high-quality care in both general obstetrics and gynaecology

Key Responsibilities:

·Lead the obstetric and gynaecological care for women with an interest in colposcopy, vulval disease, and other related conditions, ensuring the delivery of patient-centred care.

·Provide clinical expertise in the management of complex cases involving the cervix, vagina, and vulva, including colposcopy and vulval biopsy procedures.

·Contribute to the education and training of junior doctors, medical students, and other multidisciplinary team members.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

·Lead the obstetric and gynaecological care for women with an interest in colposcopy, vulval disease, and other related conditions, ensuring the delivery of patient-centred care.

·Provide clinical expertise in the management of complex cases involving the cervix, vagina, and vulva, including colposcopy and vulval biopsy procedures.

·Contribute to the education and training of junior doctors, medical students, and other multidisciplinary team members.

·Collaborate with the gynaecological oncology team, sexual health services, and other specialists to provide comprehensive care to patients with vulval disease and abnormal cervical findings.

·Ensure high standards of clinical governance, quality control, and safety in all aspects of the service.

·Participate in regular audits, departmental meetings, and clinical governance


We are looking for a consultant who is:

1. On the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

2. CCST/CCT (or equivalent), or within 6 months of a date, or entry on the Specialist Register of the GMC for Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
3. ATSM in Obstetrics and Labour ward management
4. ATSM or equivalent in Colposcopy

Desirable criteria

5. ATSM or equivalent in vulval disease

Experience

Essential criteria

6. Wide experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Desirable criteria

7. Quality improvement projects and/or research related to Obstetrics / Gynaecology
8. Experience of the UK healthcare system

Knowledge

Essential criteria

9. Record of Completed audit projects
10. An understanding of Clinical Governance and its application to Obstetrics.

Desirable criteria

11. NHS complaint handling
12. Critical incident reporting
13. Risk management Training

Skills

Essential criteria

14. Good verbal and written communication skills
15. Good organizational skills
16. Experience of multidisciplinary working
17. Commitment to continuing personal development.
