Offer description

To co-ordinate a specialist pharmacy team responsible for all aspects of Pharmaceutical Procurement in accordance with UK and EU legislation, Good Distribution Practice (EU GDP), and all other relevant medicines regulations and ethical requirements,

* Responsible for the day-to-day management of staff and workload of the pharmacy procurement teams on a day-to-day basis to ensure a safe, effective, timely and high-quality patient centred service is always provided.
* Responsible daily for ensuring all medicines used within UHP are procured at the right price, right quantity and at the right time to meet patient needs.
* Responsible for ensuring medicines are purchased in compliance with local, regional, and national contracts.
* Responsible for regular internal audits of pharmacy procurement services ensuring effective reports are presented at governance meetings.
* Participates in other audits including government led inspections of services and facilities by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in relation to the departments Wholesaler Dealers Authorisation (WDA [H]) ensuring continued maintenance of current licenses within Pharmacy.
* To deputise for the Lead Pharmacy Technician as required.

To be responsible for the management of the Pharmacy Procurement team and the operational day to day purchasing of medicines, including authorisation of purchase orders in keeping with procurement contracts in line with local, regional, and nationally agreed standards.

To undertake line management responsibilities such as recruitment, absence management, mandatory training, annual leave, rostering, and performance management.

1. To be responsible for identifying and mitigating any supply chain disruptions or queries relating to the purchasing of medicines, ensuring escalation to the Lead Pharmacy Technician – Procurement when required.

2. Support the Lead Pharmacy Technician – Procurement, and in their absence lead, on liaising with relevant stakeholders such as clinical pharmacy team, governance and nursing in relation to any supply disruptions or shortages.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

To ensure that all Procurement staff are fully competent in all aspects of pharmacy procurement services and understand the complexities of the medicines supply chain in line with Good Distribution Practice principles.

To support the training of all pharmacy professionals including trainee pharmacists, pre-registration pharmacy technicians and pharmacy support assistants.

To support the Lead Pharmacy Technician – Procurement in the management, trending and reviewing of any errors ensuring learnings and training opportunities are identified and implemented.

1. To undertake line management responsibilities such as appraisals, 1:1s and absence management, identifying development opportunities and supporting individuals' wellbeing.

2. To regularly review working practices and develop those processes to improve compliance and efficiency, ensuring that all SOPs are up to date and reflect accurately established or new working practices.

3. Develop and maintain the pharmacy supply risks spreadsheet and improve engagement with the greater pharmacy team in the management of medicines shortages and mitigating actions.

4. Take own initiative to assess outlying costs like emergency deliveries for urgent goods or sourcing alternative medicines during shortage within a reasonable price bracket and ensure all appropriate stakeholders are aware of the costs and how they will affect finances.

To support the Lead Pharmacy Technician – Procurement in the review and delivery of Better Value Procurement targets.

To support the department in the preparation for MHRA audits relating to wholesaling.

To support the implementation of any corrective actions post audit.

Actively supports sustainable procurement by considering environmental impact, waste reduction, and value for money in purchasing decision
