Purpose of the Role
The Project Quantity Surveyor will play a key role in ensuring the commercial success of SCX’s complex defence and nuclear engineering projects. Responsible for managing project budgets, administering contracts, and driving value engineering, the role safeguards financial performance while supporting the safe, cost-effective, and compliant delivery of projects. Working closely with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders, the Project Quantity Surveyor provides accurate cost forecasting, contract advice, and commercial insight to help optimise outcomes and mitigate risk across all stages of the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Budget management:
* Developing and maintaining a comprehensive project budget.
* Tracking actual costs against the budget, identifying variances, and taking corrective actions.
* Forecasting future costs and preparing cost reports for project stakeholders.
Contract administration:
* Reviewing and interpreting construction contracts to ensure compliance with project specifications and budget.
* Managing contract variations, including issuing change orders and negotiating pricing with clients.
* Administration of contractual correspondence and compliance.
* Identifying and managing project related risks and opportunities
Value engineering:
* Identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising project quality.
* Analysing design alternatives to optimize project cost.
Collaboration:
* Working closely with project managers and engineers to ensure cost-effective project delivery.
* Communicating cost updates and potential issues to project stakeholders.
* Identifying and managing project related risks and opportunities
Skills & Experience Required
* Strong analytical skills.
* Understanding of construction/engineering practices, materials, and industry standards
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder collaboration
* Proficient using relevant software and project management tools
* Experience using NEC, JCT and other bespoke forms of contract
* Relevant degree in Quantity Surveying, Project Management or Engineering
