Overview
We are seeking to recruit a competent and enthusiastic Technical Instructor to join our friendly, well-established Occupational Therapy Service based at Astor Court Intermediate Care Unit in Northumberland. You will work closely with the Occupational Therapists and other therapy staff to deliver rehabilitation within the Rehab environment and in the patient's home environment where applicable. You will carry out assessments and treatment sessions that have initially been screened by the therapist and deliver/fit equipment in patients' homes. You may be required to work in the hospital setting if the service demands.

Main duties of the job
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
* NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or above/equivalent or the willingness to complete within 12 months of employment or equivalent experience/and/or qualifications
* Education to GCSE or equivalent
* A basic understanding of the philosophy of OT and its various core skills
* An understanding of relevant legislative procedures within the OT department, including Health and Safety at work and Moving and Handling
* Ability to work independently or jointly with another member of staff

Job responsibilities
Under the supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist (OT) the post holder will be expected to:
* Assist with providing a comprehensive occupational therapy service
* Carry out assessments and other tasks that have initially been screened by the therapist, including minor adaptations and equipment (e.g. grab rails, banisters) and completion of pre-operative assessments
* Carry out appropriate intervention and seeking advice or support as required
* Perform other tasks as requested by the therapist appropriate to the remit, role and responsibilities
* Assist the therapist in facilitating safe discharge of patients from care, including delivery and fitting of equipment that has been agreed as needed
* Undertake appropriate training as indicated by the therapist specific to the client group encountered
Person Specification
Qualifications
* NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or above/equivalent or demonstrable experience within health, social care and education settings
* IT skills required for role (e.g., basic use of MS packages and database management)
Experience
* A basic understanding of the OT profession and its core skills
* Demonstrate a commitment to CPD
Other
* It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes, or has a Trust personal lease vehicle which may be used for the role. The Trust would consider reasonable adjustments to the role to enable a disabled person to undertake the role if necessary
