The opportunity exists for an experienced civil engineer to join AFRY’s Energy Division within the expanding Thermal and Renewable Energy team in the UK.
You will provide clients with help and support at all project stages, including: technical and economic feasibility studies, technology assessments, technical due diligence reviews, Lenders’ Engineer services, front end engineering design (FEED) studies, owner’s engineer services, engineering-procurement-construction-management (EPCM) services, operation and maintenance support and optimisation and expert witness services.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
* Providing engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of project challenges;
* Preparing specifications and minimum functional specifications for the civil engineering aspects of energy projects;
* Providing design support and technical reviews on designs completed by others;
* Delivering conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design outputs, including drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and schedules;
* Preparing thorough technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches;
* Continuously improving engineering knowledge and skills;
* Maintaining accurate records and files;
* Identifying and mitigating health & safety, design, sustainability, and commercial risks;
* Supporting company goals and representing AFRY professionally;
* Participating in business development, including developing contacts, presenting capabilities, and managing bids;
* Supporting the development of junior engineers.
Qualifications and Profile:
* Minimum 2:1 degree in civil engineering;
* Chartered Engineer status;
* Knowledge of UK energy sector codes and standards (Eurocodes, British Standards);
* Problem-solving skills and ability to create solutions in unfamiliar situations;
* Proactive decision-making and initiative;
* Excellent communication skills, fluent in business English, both written and oral;
* Comfortable with constructive conflict and collaborative work;
* Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and travel as required.
Experience in the following areas is advantageous but not mandatory:
* Assessment of existing structures for reuse;
* Site surveys and investigations;
* Multi-disciplinary engineering consulting;
* CAD software (Revit, AutoCAD);
* Design within a BIM environment.
