Children's Community Nurse – Fixed Term (4 months, 28.5 hrs/week)
We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic Children's Nurse to join our team on a fixed term 4 month basis.
The Children's Community Nursing Service is a small but well‑established service that provides care to children and young people who have an identified nursing or long‑term health need, supporting and empowering families to manage their child at home and in a variety of settings across Blackpool. The service also provides the special school nursing service to a number of special schools in the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre area.
You will be part of a multi‑professional team and will require excellent communication skills. We will offer a comprehensive induction and competency programme; prior competency evidence of IV therapy, venepuncture/blood sampling, enteral feeding device care, tracheostomy care and medical devices will be considered useful.
Key Responsibilities
* The post holder will be responsible for the clinical care and treatments of children and young people as part of the Children’s community nursing team.
* The children and young people’s needs are paramount; nursing support will be delivered by the team wherever that child or young person is, working in home, school and respite settings for all aged 0–19 years.
* Provide flexible support before school and in the evening, including contributing to a 24/7 palliative care service.
* Assist in the implementation and lead of clinical areas, ensuring that areas of practice are evidence based, effective and meet quality guidelines such as NICE.
* Work within and adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code and standards of practice, including maintaining an evidence portfolio for revalidation purposes.
* Support children aged 0–19 years who live in Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre with acute and/or complex health needs, ensuring all referrals are from a named Paediatrician.
* Deliver nursing care in homes, schools or respite areas, covering a seven‑day service from 8am–9pm, facilitating early discharges, and preventing hospital admissions or readmissions.
* Train education staff, develop care plans and work with other multi‑agency teams to support children to achieve best outcomes.

* Daily access to your own vehicle for managing community visits is required.
* Ability to work 28.5 hours per week on a fixed term 4 month basis.
