Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP)
Available in Islingtons School Wellbeing Service, part of the national Mental Health Support Teams initiative designed to improve access to mental health support and foster a culture of emotional support within primary and secondary schools. The service is delivered in partnership between Whittington Health and London Borough of Islington.
We are looking for proactive, creative and skilled colleagues to join our thriving team. The successful applicant will be passionate about mental health in schools, widening access to services, and enjoy inter‑agency working. Two permanent Band 5 posts and one fixed‑term (1 year) Band 5 post are available.
Key responsibilities
* Deliver preventive and early intervention mental health work to all of the borough’s mainstream schools, including workshops, assemblies, groups and individual interventions with children, young people, family members or school staff.
* Provide 1:1 brief therapeutic interventions with young people and/or their parents/carers.
* Liaise with school staff, contribute to whole‑school approaches to mental health, conduct screenings and assessments, perform observations, and support joint working with partners.
* Support service development (e.g. produce new workshops), and conduct clinical communication via notes, reports and letters.
* Participate in staff development, additional training opportunities, reflective spaces, and support your own clinical well‑being.
Requirements
* Completed a recognised postgraduate EMHP or CWP training course.
* Experience working with children, young people and schools (desirable).
* Ability to work within a multi‑ethnic and culturally diverse community and reflect the local population.
