Position: Operations Freight Control Manager Division: Rail Services Location: Rugby Reporting to: Operations Control Centre Manager Purpose of the Role To support, lead and direct the controllers on shift, ensuring that safe and effective decisions are made to protect company interests. Key Tasks (not limited to)
1. Manage the normal day to day operation of Colas services in a safe and proper manner in accordance with Safety Certificate, railway Group Standards and Colas requirements via the company standards and training provided.
2. Taking prompt and appropriate action to ensure safety of people and equipment and infrastructure in normal operating conditions and during out of course situations as detailed in company standards.
3. Ensuring the control team minimise and manage the effects of operational incidents, cancellations, lateness.
4. To manage a team of Freight Operations Controllers including timesheets, annual leave requests, Freight Roster and all other responsibilities of managing a team.
5. Facilitate Daily Freight Management Meeting
6. Regular and consistent daily / weekly liaison with Freight Management, Loco Planning, Freight Operations, Engineering, Planning & Rostering and Train Planning to ensure collaboration.
7. To assist Freight Control Desks.
8. To issue guidance and support to Freight Controllers and assist in Safety Critical decision making.
9. To manage Accidents and Incidents including the escalation and associated paperwork.
10. Performance Monitoring and TRUST Delay Attribution and associated reporting.
11. Face to Face Team / Safety Briefs
12. Induction and training of New Control Staff.
13. To complete Assessments and Skills Needs Analysis on Freight Control Staff
14. To ensure that all processes, procedures and general day to day duties are being followed and carried out at all times.
15. Manage all aspects of Freight Control personnel including, but not limited to performance, disciplinaries, training, timesheets, annual Leave, and absences.
16. Create new processes and procedures for Freight Control when required.
17. Attendance of Freight Planning and Freight Review Meetings
18. Attendance of handover meetings from rostering team
19. Represent Colas in industry control meetings and exercises as necessary to enhance the reputation and protect the interests of the business.

Qualifications/Experience
26. Experience of Railway Operations
27. Good Railway geographical knowledge
28. Experience and knowledge of the Rail Freight industry
29. Accomplished Control experience and knowledge.
30. The ability to think outside the box, strong decision-making skills.
31. Good negotiation skills and able to resolve problems.
32. Must have Leadership and Management qualities.
33. Strong IT Skills / In depth knowledge of TOPS
