Overview
Job title: Personal Assistant (PA) required to support a young person living in Barry who has Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy and uses an electric wheelchair. The PA will help with going out, socialising, and maintaining independence.
Purpose
The PA will support outings and social activities, access public transport, and may drive a van on occasion. A valid driver’s licence is required.
Place of Work
In and around the area of Barry
Hours
3 hours per week
17:00–20:00 on weekdays
Any time after 10:00 on weekends
Rate of Pay
£15.00 per hour
Responsibilities
* Support accessing public transport
* Provide personal care as needed
* Occasionally drive the applicant's van
* Attend social activities such as going to the pub, watching football, and visiting Barry Island arcades
* Assist with planning and navigating bus routes from the applicant’s home
Person Specification
* Someone who can keep up with the applicant and is confident, outgoing, and reliable
* Not easily offended; able to provide gentle guidance and keep boundaries
* Due to the care involved, applicants with appropriate experience are preferred
* Driver with car ownership is advantageous
About the Job
Although part-time, the role is a proper employment position requiring a National Insurance number. A trial period will apply. Pay is monthly with holiday pay. The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) check (to be carried out before employment begins). The employer (Local Authority) will cover the cost of the DBS check. Checks will be carried out to confirm the right to work in the UK.
