Practice Education Facilitator

Liverpool Clinical Laboratories (LCL) is recruiting two passionate and experienced Practice Education Facilitators (PEFs) – one for each of the following directorates: Cellular Pathology and Blood Sciences. Main Duties of the Job

As a PEF, you'll play a strategic and operational role in designing, delivering, and evaluating high-quality, multi‑professional education and training. You'll coordinate competency sign‑off, support HCPC and IBMS portfolio development, and lead CPD initiatives. You'll work collaboratively across LCL to ensure consistency, innovation, and excellence in training delivery – empowering staff to grow with confidence and clarity.


Key Responsibilities


Education & Training

* Develop and deliver structured training programmes, including Health & Safety.
* Support competency‑based training frameworks.
* Coordinate student placements and mentorship.
* Create teaching materials and assessment tools.
* Promote digital and blended learning.
* Design preceptorship programmes for newly registered Biomedical Scientists.
* Develop career pathways and support CPD activities.


Quality Assurance & Governance

* Lead training audits and monitor compliance.
* Maintain training records and data systems.
* Contribute to service improvement and policy development.
* Use data to inform workforce planning and training needs.
* Build relationships across LCL and external partners.
* Champion inter‑professional learning and NHS scientific careers.
* Provide updates and reports to leadership.


Professional Development

* Support staff in identifying learning needs.
* Facilitate CPD and mentor development.
* Maintain own HCPC registration and professional growth.


What We're Looking For

* HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientists with extensive experience, ideally to Specialist level.
* Specialist knowledge in Cellular Pathology and Blood Sciences.
* Proven track record in delivering education and training.
* Strong understanding of educational frameworks and quality assurance.
* Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
* Passion for innovation, collaboration, and empowering others.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Degree in a relevant healthcare discipline (IBMS‑accredited or equivalent).
* HCPC registration
* MSc in a relevant Biomedical Science discipline (or similar experience)
* Evidence of CPD and/or postgraduate qualification in education or training
* Teaching and assessing qualification (or willingness to work towards)
* NEBOSH or IOSH Qualification


Experience

* Significant experience in a laboratory setting
* Proven track record in delivering education and training
* Experience in quality assurance, audit, or service improvement
* Experience in team management, supervision, and introducing new practices


Knowledge

* Strong understanding of educational frameworks, regulatory standards, and quality assurance.
* Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant digital learning platforms
* Ability to manage projects, prioritise workload, and work independently
* Knowledge of inter‑professional learning theory and curriculum development
* Strong project planning and organisational skills
* Ability to analyse training needs and develop appropriate responses
* Ability to provide pastoral support to learners


Skills

* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
* Excellent interpersonal skills able to engage and build effective relationships at all levels in stakeholder organisations
* Ability to present to large groups of people
* Ability to teach and facilitate in a variety of settings with different groups of staff
* Able to plan, implement and evaluate education programmes
* Excellent organisational and administrative skills
* Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
* Ability to work without supervision and use own initiative
* Ability to work flexibly and manage competing priorities
* Consistently high attention to detail and quality of work
* Ability to work as a member of a team
* Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with people from a wide range of personal and professional backgrounds
* Adaptable to meet differing learning styles/ preferences
* Willingness to work across organization boundaries
* Ability to write evidence based reports
* Understanding of quality improvement methodology and outcome measurement
* Ability to supervise staff on a day to day basis
