Senior Solicitor (Real Estate & Planning)

* Salary: £65,184 – £77,845 (pro‑rated for part‑time)
* Hours: 36 per week (part‑time considered)
About the role
The City of Edinburgh Council’s in‑house legal team offers an exciting opportunity for a Senior Solicitor to join its Real Estate team. Applicants should have experience in commercial property law or planning law, or a combination of both. Experience working for a public sector organisation would be desirable.
Responsibilities
* Advise on planning and property law, including development agreements, site assembly, commercial leasing, purchases, sales, asset management, residential leases, title queries and local authority matters such as the Low Emission Zone, Compulsory Purchase and nature reserve dedications.
* Provide complex planning and building control advice, including S75 agreements, enforcement actions, judicial reviews, CPOs and policy support.
* Support high‑profile capital projects and contribute to the council’s delivery of innovative projects.
* Work collaboratively within a collegial environment, developing a full range of legal and other skills.
Qualifications & Experience
* Strong background in commercial property law, planning law, or both.
* Experience with public sector legal work is desirable.
* Pro‑active, positive attitude, willingness to learn and ability to work as part of a team to solve complex problems.
Working Arrangements
* Full‑time position, 36 hours per week, with flexibility for reduced hours.
