The Matron will play a key role in leadership of the intermediate care unit teams as part of the clinical management team within the area and will support the General Manager to ensure the delivery of quality care. They will be responsible and accountable for the direct delivery of care within intermediate care unit services ensuring effective professional nursing leadership and pro-active resource management.

As an experienced practitioner, the post holder will be expected to create an environment of continuous quality improvement, developing clinical practice and ensuring that delivery of care is regularly reviewed embedding the CQC agenda.

Key Responsibilities will include contributing to the strategic development within the area, maximising human and financial resources and the delivery of the Key Performance Indicators as identified including effective and efficient patient flow through the intermediate care units. This will be supported by high quality communications with all groups of staff.


Main duties of the job

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust is a large Community Trust which is proud to provide extensive services across Brighton & Hove, West Sussex and part of East Sussex.

As part of these services SCFT have a number of Intermediate Care Units which provide both step down and step up care in our local communities.

Our teams include trained nurses, healthcare assistants, rehabilitation support workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, medical staff, Advanced nurse practitioners, visiting pharmacists and in reach services from other healthcare and social care professionals.

We are now looking to recruit a Locality Matron to provide the leadership and governance oversight to three of our units based in Haywards Heath, Horsham and Worthing.

Job responsibilities

a) To lead in the performance management of the intermediate care units including the collection/collation and submission of data to support activity and KPI reporting as well as audit programme.

b) To assist in the resolution of any conflicts within the clinical area, resolving informal complaints locally and assisting in the investigation of andresponse to formal com- plaints as required.

c) To investigate accidents and incidents; identify and implement corrective action where necessary, in conjunction with the Area Nurse.

d) To ensure there is an effective and efficient use of resources, within the clinical areas.

e) To ensure that patients follow agreed pathways of care and are supported towards safe and effective discharge.

Ability to meet a range of competing deadlines and priorities; ability to create action plans in line with key milestones

Competent computer skills and ability to utilise information and information technology

Knowledge of organisational culture, change management

Commitment to continuing professional development

Knowledge of clinical governance and application to the services

Ability to maintain knowledge of NHS legislation and policies

Knowledge of multidisciplinary team working and an understanding of differing professional role boundaries

Access to a vehicle to travel between sites

Person Specification


Qualifications

* RGN first level nurse/Qualified Registered Therapist
* 1st Degree in relevant subject
* Evidence of continuous professional development
* Management Qualification


Experience

* Substantial experience in a leadership role including contributing to operational management of services
* Experience of staff management, including recruitment and retention of staff, performance management, and managing sickness and absence
* Experience of a supervisory role and personal development planning
* Experience of partnership working with a wide range of statutory and non-statutory providers
* Experience of vulnerable adult and children protection - processes and management
* Experience of managing complex rosters
* Experience of budget management, budget monitoring and review
* Experience of managing risk in a bed based unit
* Experience of working within multi -- disciplinary teams


Skills and Knowledge

* Evidence of ability to monitor and maintain standards of care
* Evidence of ability to motivate and inspire others
* Evidence of ability to identify and manage clinical and corporate risk
* Awareness of Independent prescribing issues
* Evidence of ability to lead complaints and incidents management
* Ability to present complex ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing
