Subsea Cables Engineer - Geosciences Our client are looking for a highly motivated and technically proficient Subsea Cables Engineer to join our their dynamic Geo Service Unit. This role offers a unique opportunity for a Junior / Project Engineer to be at the forefront of subsea infrastructure projects, supporting the planning, design, installation, and maintenance of subsea cable systems across a variety of sectors including offshore energy and interconnectors. The is a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of geotechnical, geophysical, geological and marine engineering professionals - across global projects from day one. Key Responsibilities: Cable Route Engineering: Support the development of subsea cable route design, including desktop studies (DTS), route optimisation, geohazard assessments, and corridor selection in coordination with geophysical and geotechnical data. Technical Input & Design: Contribute to the engineering design of subsea cable systems, including CBRA (cable burial route assessments) studies, mechanical cable protection strategies, crossing design (e.g., pipelines, existing cables), and installation methodology selection. Survey Support: Liaise with survey teams during marine site investigations, ensuring relevant data acquisition meets project and engineering requirements. Provide offshore support when required for cable lay, burial, and inspection activities. Interface Management: Serve as a technical interface between internal teams, external consultants, contractors, and clients, ensuring clear communication and coordination of subsea cable design and installation aspects. Regulatory & Environmental Compliance: Support permitting efforts by contributing engineering input to environmental impact assessments (EIA), risk assessments, and regulatory submissions. Risk Management: Identify and assess technical and operational risks associated with subsea cable systems, and contribute to the development of appropriate mitigation strategies. Project Delivery: Provide input into project planning, budgeting, and scheduling. Assist in the preparation and review of engineering deliverables, technical specifications, scope of works, and tender documentation. Innovation & Development: Keep abreast of technological developments, best practices, and industry standards in subsea cable engineering. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and knowledge sharing within the geo unit. Essential Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geoscience, or a related discipline. Postgraduate qualifications are advantageous. 1-3 years of professional engineering exposure in a similar field Familiarity with international standards and guidelines relevant to subsea cables (e.g., ICPC, IEC, DNV). Working knowledge of GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), cable routing software, and CAD platforms. Strong understanding of geophysical and geotechnical survey data and its application to route engineering. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality technical documentation and deliver presentations to stakeholders. Willingness to travel offshore and internationally as required. Desirable Attributes: Experience with offshore construction, cable lay, and post-lay inspection and burial techniques. Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional registration with a recognised engineering body (e.g., ICE, IMarEST, IET). Proven experience in subsea cable engineering, preferably within the telecoms, offshore wind, or power transmission sectors.
