Job Description:
To assist in our workshops production of handmade homeware products. Many aspects of the manufacturing process will be carried out in this role; from working with raw materials to the finishing of products to a very high standard.
Company Overview:
We are a handmade gothic home décor business hailing from the South Wales Valleys. A family owned and run business with a team of Artisans working from our Aberaman based workshop. We design and manufacture unique homeware products and distribute worldwide. We're looking to expand our team by welcoming another Workshop Assistant/Artisan to our manufacturing/production team on the workshop floor.
Overview of Job:
Full time position (37.5 hours per week. 8am-4pm Monday-Friday).
Permanent Role (Probation period of 4 months)
Paid over-time mandatory during peak production times.
Location: Aberaman Industrial Estate. 10-minute walk from Cwmbach train station. Due to the nature of our business this role cannot be carried out on a remote basis; all work is carried out in our workshop.
Starting Salary: National Living Wage (Hourly paid/Monthly payroll)
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
* Working in a high-volume, fast-paced workshop environment
* Production processes; making homeware products in volume from start to finish (using machinery and power tools)
* Working with and understanding raw materials (resin, plaster)
* Hand preparation of products; sanding/preparing them for the painting stage.
* Spray Painting and hand painting of products
* Hand finishing/painting of products/final touches/assembly

* Ability to understand and follow health and safety guidelines, operating procedures and protocols.
* Strong team player that is very aware of their surroundings and others.
* Have a strong work-ethic and high level of care/pride in the work they produce.
* The ability to learn and operate in a fast-paced, busy environment. Please note we are a very busy workshop and growing business so adaptability is essential.
* Capability to excel at multi-tasking in a role where by several processes are being carried out.
* A 'can-do' attitude. The glass is half-full here
* A strong eye for detail is critical.
* Have high energy; this role requires someone to work with pace whilst maintaining standards.
* No fear of getting your hands dirty
* Able to work as part of a small team and understand excellent time management whilst working to time based schedules.
* Ability to safely use power tools and workshop machinery (training is provided)
* Practical, reliable, flexible; as we are a small hard working team of Artisans these are important attributes to us.
Experience you'll need:
* You'll have experience in a field where your skill set can be transferred (as per Key Skills above).
* Working within a small team and therefore understand the importance of time management and the importance of communicating efficiently to achieve shared goals.
* Working to time-based schedules & meeting KPI's.
* Have experience working in a very 'hands-on' active role. This is not a desk-job and requires you to be stood/constantly on the move in the workshop to work at different stations. Manual Handling is carried out daily.
* Working in a busy environment where multi-tasking is key.
* Working in a role that required you to have a keen eye for detail and ensure high standards of quality were executed consistently.
* Working within an environment that required you to tidy/clean as you work.
As full training will be carried out by our experienced and highly skilled team you do not need relevant experience in making/manufacturing to apply – but any previous experience may be advantageous to your application. A transferable skill set and real enthusiasm to learn is key to excelling in our team.
