The Role
We are currently recruiting for Electrical Design Engineers of all levels to join our in‑house design team that is based in Southampton. We are a friendly and professional multi‑disciplined team, responsible for the design management of a variety of projects across the water & energy sectors. We are keen to receive applications from individuals with experience of working within the water and/or waste water sector. Hybrid working is available, with an expectation of being in the office 2‑3 days per week and client/site visits as and when required.
Responsibilities
* Responsible for the management of project‑specific design deliverables
* Carry out design in accordance with M&E Design QA procedures
* Responsible for the detailed design in accordance with the company procedures
* Interpret and understand client requirements from client documents (drawings, specifications, correspondence, etc.)
* Communicate with client, external design resources and subcontractors to ensure compliance with specification
* Conduct site surveys of existing assets
* Optioneer and feasibility studies
* Assist with tender pricing
* Produce procurement specifications for electrical equipment and detailed design construction drawings
* Project‑manage third‑party designs and provide design assistance to installation and commissioning teams
* Review vendor controls system Functional Design Specifications for compliance with our requirements
* Review vendor data and drawings for all electrical equipment and package plant, motor control centres, power distribution panels and field equipment panels
* Manage internal and external project‑specific design costs in liaison with the Project Manager
* Undertake and check design calculations including modelling of the complete power system (AMTECH)
* Prepare drawings for CAD production, in accordance with the company QA procedures
* Assist in the development of process control philosophies with the Process Engineer and suppliers
* Produce URS documentation
* Produce electrical scope and works enquiry submission documents
* Estimate material and labour costs
* Undertake design risk assessments to support detailed design proposals
* Prepare detailed electrical specifications
* Produce single‑line and block cable diagrams, load schedules, equipment specifications, cable schedules, equipment schedules, telemetry schedules, instrument schedules and I/O listings
* Record and document all design changes through to completion and issue of “As Built” documents
* Liaise with clients and subcontractors
Qualifications
* An appropriate electrical qualification or equivalent experience
* Chartered membership of a relevant professional institution is an advantage but not essential
