Come and join our dynamic, friendly, supportive team of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists We are looking for a full-time Band 3 Therapy Assistant to work within our Respiratory team at St Peter's Hospital on a 12-month fixed term contract. O ur dedicated multidisciplinary team supports patients from admission through to discharge home or onward rehabilitation. You'll work mainly with Therapists but also alongside other health professions. We have a positive approach to development and value our staff, supporting regular training, supervision and appraisals.

The role comprises of both patient facing and administrative activities. You will manage a patient caseload with guidance, delegated by qualified clinicians. You will also assist clinicians with joint assessment and rehabilitation sessions. Non-clinical duties will include cleaning and maintenance of therapy equipment, data entry and stock maintenance. There will also be general administration jobs.

Assist the therapy team in providing a range of treatments under the guidance and supervision of qualified staff, to facilitate patients to reach their optimum level of health, independence and social integration. This will include gathering collateral information from patients and providing intervention within set parameters to facilitate patients reaching their optimum level of independence and social integration

Work independently, under the guidance and supervision of qualified staff

Maintain effective communication links with patients, carers and all relevant professionals as appropriate

Continue professional and personal development including participation in training programmes

U ndertake non-clinical duties related to the treatment and management of patients, i.e. ordering of equipment, recording contacts/stats

There is an expectation that the post holder will be required to travel between sites for meetings/training as necessary and to support other teams if required.

There may be a requirement to take part in the weekend rota.

Clinical

* All clinical duties overseen by registered therapists.

Work in collaboration with team members to provide therapy input and support delivery of high-quality, person-centred care under qualified supervision.

Gather patient information and assist in treatment programmes/ rehabilitation plans set out by qualified therapists, organising and prioritising workload effectively.

Identify and manage clinical risks, recognise deterioration, and report to seniors appropriately.

Understand principles of rehab within the respiratory specialty, such as breathlessness and support strategies for this as guided by qualified clinician

Supply aids and equipment, ensuring appropriate sizing and education in the correct use, as prescribed by a qualified therapist.

Ensure equipment and resources are maintained and prepared for use

Contribute to the discharge planning process, completing delegated onward referrals where required

Flexible working including possible weekend rota

Leadership

Independently and flexibly manage time and workload as delegated by qualified clinician.

Maintain high service standards and contribute to team objectives through independent learning and collaboration with the team.

Advocate for patients, families, carers, and staff.

Participate in service development and develop leadership skills, supporting wellbeing for self and others.

Communication

Develop and maintain respectful and compassionate relationships with service users

Use verbal, non-verbal and written communication methods accordingly for those with barriers to understanding, communication or challenging behaviour

Maintain accurate and legible records of all interventions and management

Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient and staff information, adhering to organisational policies and procedures

Report patient progress to MDT and participate in meetings

Engage, persuade and motivate patients through effective communication to optimise treatment outcome

Manage emotional situations with empathy and professionalism.

Attend staff meetings and relevant training, and actively participate

Education

Engage in CPD and competency-based training; keep mandatory training up to date.

Take responsibility for own personal development and participate in supervision.

Stay informed on therapy developments and practice within scope.

Understand and apply Evidence Based Practice.

Research and Development

Participate in quality/ service development projects, including audits, as directed by the MDT

Contribute towards completion of activity records and evaluation of the service in line with departmental procedures and make improvements with support from seniors

General Responsibilities

Undertake delegated administrative duties and support department functions.

Work safely and autonomously, ensuring health and safety; report incidents.

Follow Trust policies on clinical management, HR, equality, and behaviour.

Comply with the Data Protection Act and always ensure confidentiality of personal information relating to patients and staff

Undertake duties as may be required from time to time and are consistent with the responsibilities of the role and as qualified and able
