Location: Oldham.

Reports To: Head of Centre, Deputy Head of Centre, Proprietor.

Salary: £25,350 – £36,648 (actual) per annum, dependent on experience and qualifications

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Chances Mentoring is a registered independent specialist school that focuses on providing kinaesthetic education and mentoring to children with various learning needs, especially those with EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans) and behavioural issues. Additionally, we offer ASDAN qualifications and AQA Awards, which help our students achieve accredited qualifications and gain essential skills for post-16 education and beyond.

We also incorporate daily physical activities, outdoor learning experiences, and community engagement to support students' mental health and enhance their ability to concentrate. Our approach includes various assessments to track and develop student progress, which are shared with both schools and families.

Job Overview

We are seeking to appoint a passionate, motivated and committed individual to join our team and help change lives through the power of education. We are looking for a dedicated and dynamic PE and Cross Curriculum Secondary Teacher to join our expanding team at Chances Mentoring. This role involves working with students who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs). The ideal candidate will possess the ability to create an engaging, supportive, and stimulating learning environment tailored to the individual needs of our students, promoting both academic and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and learning

* Set high expectations that inspire, motivate and challenge students.

* To ensure that all lessons are prepared and delivered in order that all pupils can make at least expected or better progress.

* To deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that meet the needs of SEMH students.

* Incorporate a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and ensure accessibility of the curriculum.

* To assist in the development of appropriate schemes of learning and resources for the subject area.

* To ensure that the learning environment is safe, welcoming, stimulating and promotes learning.

* Meet the independent School Standards.

* To develop teaching strategies for students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with our SENCO and other staff members.

* Provide pastoral care and support, focusing on the holistic development of students.

* Implement effective behaviour management strategies to foster a positive learning environment.

* Teach BTEC PE, practical PE, and cross curriculum subjects.

Assessment and Reporting:

* Monitor and assess student progress regularly, providing constructive feedback and adapting teaching strategies accordingly.

* Maintain accurate records of student achievement and progress, reporting to parents/carers and other stakeholders as required.

Collaboration and Communication:

* Work closely with teaching assistants, SENCO, and other educational professionals to support student learning.

* Communicate effectively with parents/carers to keep them informed of their child's progress and any concerns.

Professional Development:

* Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with educational best practices and SEN strategies.

* Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and school events.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) in the UK.

* A degree in a relevant subject area.

* Additional qualifications in Special Educational Needs (SEN) or SEMH (desirable).

Experience:

* Proven experience in teaching secondary school students, ideally within a cross-curricular setting.

* Experience working with students with SEMH needs and EHCPs.

* Demonstrated ability to manage and support students with behavioural issues.

Skills and Abilities:

* Strong understanding of the challenges and needs associated with SEMH students.

* Ability to design and implement creative, engaging, and differentiated lessons.

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

* Strong organisational and time management abilities.

* Effective behaviour management strategies and skills.

* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
