Salary: £26,605 - £28,277 FTE

1.Purpose of the job

To support, coach and assess apprentices working towards achieving an apprenticeship standard, making sure they meet the occupational standards, develop enough evidence to progress through gateway and are fully prepared to achieve the End Point Assessment.

2.Key Accountabilities

2.1Act as an apprenticeship coach with a pro rata caseload of approximately 30-45 apprentices. Specific caseload to be agreed with line manager.

2.2Complete high quality initial training plan documentation in conjunction with the apprentice and employer ensuring:

2.2.1A thorough initial assessment has been conducted taking account of the apprentice’s prior knowledge and attainment.

2.2.2A detailed training plan is completed to include evidence of co-design of delivery with the employer.

2.2.3Accurately recorded start and end dates.

2.2.4A clear plan to achieve the Off the Job requirement.

2.2.5Valid input from the employer.

2.3Carry out regular, high quality workplace reviews with the apprentice and their employer. Reviews will include detail in the following areas:

2.3.1Setting and reviewing challenging smart targets

2.3.2Providing sufficient evidence of apprentices’ progress and employer input.

2.3.3Documenting questioning and responses around E&D, Prevent, British Values, Safeguarding and H&S.

2.3.4Additional learning needs are discussed and reviewed with the apprentice and employer to ensure support is sufficient and beneficial for those that need it.

2.3.5Apprentice is recording sufficient off the job training within the colleges system, liaising with the programme leader and employer to ensure any apprentice falling behind has a plan to catch up this allocation in a timely manner.

2.3.6Quality of documentation meets the colleges audit standard.

2.4Attend departmental tracking meetings to accurately report on your areas of responsibility and support programme leaders to ensure tracking is accurate.

2.5Work with individual apprentices and their employer to ensure those falling behind are up to date with their progress in a timely manner.

2.6Agree planned end dates for apprentices with programme leaders and employers, ensuring they meet minimum durations set on the apprenticeship standard.

2.7Manage own areas of responsible to ensure achievement by the planned end date. Securing overall achievement above national averages and within the planned hybrid end year.

2.8Work closely with the Business Development team to ensure timely assessment of new employers are carried out; providing assurance that new employers can meet the evidence requirements of the relevant apprenticeship standard.

2.9Ensure the college’s central Health and Safety (H&S) and Employer Liability Insurance (ELI) records are kept up to date for companies within your caseload, by carrying out workplace H&S assessments and chasing employers for ELI documentation.

2.10Where required by the apprenticeship standard, provide apprentices with support in conjunction with the programme lead, to prepare a portfolio of evidence required to meet the gateway requirements.

2.11Contribute to the continuous improvement of quality in all apprenticeship activities.

2.12Attend meetings with other assessors and curriculum staff for standardisation and to share good practice and undertake IQA / EQA activities as required.

2.13Manage the process of reporting absence from college to employers on the day of the absence, ensuring the safety of all apprentices and in line with college procedures.

2.14Sign off apprentices to proceed though to gateway in conjunction with the apprentice and the employer, signalling that the apprentice is ready to achieve their End Point Assessment successfully.

2.15Forge positive relationships with employers, promoting further educational opportunities, liaising with business development to ensure employers wishing to support an apprentice to progress or employ additional apprentices are fully supported.

2.16Keep an accurate and up-to-date appointments diary in the specified college system, to support safe working practices.

2.17Manage holidays in liaison with the wider team to ensure staff are available throughout the year to support new starts, reviews, and employer interactions.

2.18Provide ad hoc cover for classes as requested by line manager. (This does not include planned teaching duties.)

2.19Support College policies, procedures, and quality assurance systems. To conduct aspects of all duties and responsibilities in line with the Corporation’s Health & Safety Policy in the interests of themselves, other colleagues, and students.

2.20Prepare for and participate in appropriate College Events (these may include Open Evenings, Parents Evenings, enrolment events

2.21Engage in professional development including the conduct of and participation in staff appraisal and in-service training based on an assessment of individual needs. Contribute to the mentoring system for new staff and colleagues as appropriate.

2.22Perform such other reasonable duties commensurate with the grade of the post as required by the Principal and Chief Executive.

Ensure a professional approach in all aspect of work, treating all staff, students and the wider college community with respect.
