Offer description

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

A well-established independent day school in Newcastle upon Tyne is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Teacher of French & German to join its successful Modern Languages department. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a school where languages are highly valued and where pupils are encouraged to develop fluency, cultural awareness and intellectual confidence.

The school has a strong tradition of academic achievement and prides itself on offering a broad and balanced education. Modern Foreign Languages remain popular at both GCSE and A-Level, with consistently strong outcomes and a culture that celebrates internationalism and global understanding.

-----------------------------------

The School

This independent school combines traditional academic standards with a modern outlook. Class sizes are small, allowing teachers to know their pupils well and provide detailed, personalised feedback. Students are polite, motivated and responsive, supported by a strong pastoral structure.

The school places significant emphasis on:

• Academic excellence across all subjects
• Cultural enrichment and international awareness
• Personalised pastoral care
• Preparation for competitive university pathways

Many pupils go on to study languages, international relations and related disciplines at leading universities.

-----------------------------------

The Role

You will teach both French and German across Key Stages 3–5, including GCSE and A-Level. The department follows a carefully structured curriculum that balances grammatical precision with confident speaking and authentic cultural engagement.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Delivering high-quality, immersive language lessons
• Preparing students for GCSE and A-Level examinations
• Supporting oral examinations and moderation processes
• Contributing to curriculum development and assessment refinement
• Promoting languages through clubs, cultural events and exchanges

The department encourages the use of authentic texts, media and discussion to develop linguistic competence and cultural depth.

-----------------------------------

The Department

The MFL department is collaborative and academically ambitious. Teachers share resources and best practice, and there is a strong emphasis on examination preparation and speaking confidence at KS4 and KS5.

Department strengths include:

• Small teaching groups enabling focused language development
• Dedicated language classrooms with audio-visual facilities
• Strong GCSE and A-Level results
• Opportunities for overseas trips and exchange programmes
• Active language societies and enrichment events

Students are accustomed to high expectations and engage well in discussion-based lessons.

-----------------------------------

Wider Contribution

Independent schools value staff who contribute to the broader life of the school. The successful candidate may be involved in:

• Leading language clubs or cultural societies
• Supporting international trips or exchange visits
• Acting as a pastoral tutor within the house system
• Participating in co-curricular activities

-----------------------------------

Who We’re Looking For

The successful candidate will:

• Hold QTS or equivalent experience in an independent or high-performing setting
• Demonstrate strong subject knowledge in both French and German
• Be confident teaching up to A-Level
• Show enthusiasm for cultural enrichment and global awareness
• Value collaboration and professional growth

A commitment to promoting languages within the wider school community is essential.

-----------------------------------

What’s On Offer

• Competitive independent school salary
• Small classes and engaged students
• Strong departmental support and CPD
• Free on-site parking and term-time meals
• A collegiate, academically focused environment

This is an outstanding opportunity to teach Modern Languages in a respected Newcastle independent school where scholarship, culture and pastoral care are deeply embedded.
