North Northamptonshire Council
Surveyor

Offer description

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Compliance Surveyor to join our Operations Team, a multi-disciplinary team supporting the Council’s Corporate Estate. The team brings together the Property Helpdesk, Statutory Compliance, Building Surveyors and a full Facilities Management function, all working collaboratively to ensure our buildings are safe, compliant and well managed.

This is a key role providing oversight, assurance and coordination of statutory compliance across our property portfolio. As we roll out the Corporate Landlord Model, you’ll be joining at a time of transformation—making this a challenging, fast-paced and highly rewarding opportunity.

What will you be doing?

This is a busy and varied role focused on ensuring statutory compliance is effectively managed across the estate. Your typical responsibilities will include:

• Overseeing statutory compliance programmes across areas such as fire safety, asbestos, water hygiene, gas, electrical and lifts.

• Coordinating and monitoring statutory inspections, liaising with contractors and the Contracts Manager.

• Reviewing and analysing inspection reports to identify risks, compliance gaps and required actions.

• Grouping, prioritising and coordinating remedial works with the Principal Surveyor and Building Surveyors

• Managing progress of compliance actions, ensuring risks are addressed and closed in a timely way.

• Supporting the preparation of Requests for Quotation (RFQs) and providing technical input into procurement.

• Acting as a key point of contact for compliance consultants and contractors

This role is about oversight and assurance—you will not be carrying out physical inspections, but instead ensuring the right processes and actions are in place to keep the estate compliant and safe.

About you

We are looking for someone who can bring strong technical understanding alongside excellent organisational and communication skills. You will have:

1. Strong knowledge of statutory compliance within a property or built-environment context
2. Experience overseeing compliance programmes or statutory inspection regimes
3. The ability to interpret technical reports and translate findings into clear, prioritised actions.
4. Experience within property, compliance, building surveying or facilities management environments
5. Good understanding of health & safety legislation and building regulations.
6. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
7. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
8. A methodical, detail-focused and risk-aware approach.

A relevant professional qualification (or working towards one) and experience working in a local authority or multi-site estate would be advantageous.

Why Join Us?

9. A role where no two days are the same, offering variety and challenge
10. Opportunity to be part of a major transformation programme shaping how our estate is managed
11. Work within a supportive, collaborative, multi-disciplinary team
12. Make a real impact by ensuring our buildings are safe, compliant and fit for purpose

Development & Progression

We are committed to supporting our staff in their professional and personal development. You will have access to learning opportunities, support to develop your expertise, and the potential to progress your career as the service continues to evolve.

If you are looking for a challenging and rewarding role where you can make a real difference, we would love to hear from you.
