Tunnel Surveyor – HS2 Project
Location: Northolt Tunnel
Contract: Fixed Term (10 months)
Working Pattern: Shift pattern 7/4 & 7/3 (days and nights), 12-hour shifts

Carmichael UK is recruiting a Tunnel Surveyor to support delivery of the HS2 project at Northolt Tunnel. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a major UK infrastructure project, working within a high-performing tunnelling environment.
The role is based on site and is accessible by public transport.
The Role
You will support tunnel construction teams by delivering accurate and timely survey services, ensuring works are carried out safely and in accordance with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Senior Tunnel Surveyor
Undertaking setting-out works for tunnel walkways, including kickers, V-notch and panel checks
Installing and maintaining tunnel survey control brackets, benchmarks and spigots in line with approved methodologies and instructions
Carrying out tunnel survey control network measurements, including terrestrial and levelling observations, and storing data in accordance with procedures
Performing tunnel setting-out duties for elements such as walkways, drainage and cross-passage doors
Maintaining survey equipment, ensuring all tools and accessories are kept clean, dry and stored correctly
Undertaking convergence monitoring and reporting for SCL works, including shafts, audits and cross passages
Completing as-built wriggle surveys when required
Understanding and complying with Client and Joint Venture Environmental and Sustainability policies, processes and statutory requirements as they relate to the role
About You
Degree qualified in Surveying, Geomatics or a closely related discipline
Minimum of 3 years’ proven experience in a tunnelling environment, preferably within SCL and/or TBM tunnelling
Able to clearly communicate safe systems of work and ensure they are followed accurately
Comfortable taking ownership of tasks and communicating outcomes effectively
Strong work ethic with flexibility to work shift patterns, including nights and unsociable hours
