Job Summary:
• The post holder will work as part of a specialist Clinical Health Team providing high-quality, evidence-based psychological services to adults with learning disabilities whose needs cannot be fully met by mainstream services.
• The role involves offering specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention, contributing to multi-disciplinary care planning, and providing consultation and training to support professionals, carers, and families.The post also includes opportunities for supervision of junior staff and participation in service development.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Hold and manage a clinical caseload, delivering specialist psychological assessments and interventions in line with service care pathways.
• Provide evidence-based, person-centred psychological care to adults with learning disabilities.
• Adapt psychological methods and materials to meet clients’ communication and cognitive needs.
• Support clients exhibiting behaviours that challenge, using Positive Behavioural Support approaches.
• Undertake risk assessments and contribute to risk management planning.
• Offer professional consultation, advice, and training to care providers, families, and other stakeholders.
• Supervise assistant and trainee psychologists, as appropriate.
• Engage in continuing professional development, supervision, and training activities.
• Maintain high standards of clinical documentation and data management in line with legal and professional requirements.
• Contribute to audit, evaluation and service development initiatives.
Skills/Experience:
• Demonstrable experience working with adults with learning disabilities, including assessment and therapeutic interventions.
• Strong knowledge of psychological models relevant to learning disabilities and dual diagnoses.
• Familiarity with relevant legislation (e.g. Mental Health Act, Care Act, Mental Capacity Act).
• High-level communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage sensitive and distressing information.
• Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams and in community-based settings.
• Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
• Experience of supervising junior staff or trainees.
• Training or experience in Positive Behavioural Support.
• Competence in using electronic case management systems and standard IT packages.
• Experience of service development, evaluation, or audit work.
Additional Information:
• HCPC-registered Practitioner Psychologist with doctoral-level clinical psychology training (or equivalent).
• Must be eligible for Chartered status with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
• The job is hybrid but we would expect most assessments to be face to face (as a guideline 3 days a week in Sutton).
