Job Summary
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced, dynamic, self‑motivated nurse to join the gastroenterology team at St Helier Hospital to support the inflammatory bowel disease service. This is an exciting and varied role, working within a multidisciplinary team providing a high level of support to patients. The right individual will lead, develop and shape the service, sharing best practice, and act as a resource on audit, quality and risk management initiatives.
Main Duties
The IBD Clinical Nurse Specialist will play an integral role in developing a quality‑driven service for all patients at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, with particular focus at St Helier Hospital. The CNS has a leadership role within the Trust and is responsible for innovative nursing practice within the IBD speciality, facilitating the development of other nurses and acting as an educational resource for all members of the multidisciplinary team. The CNS will coordinate a seamless pathway of care from diagnosis through treatment for patients with IBD and promote collaboration across the MDT.
Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
* Essential: Registered professional (NMC) with evidence of regular updating
* Registered nurse practitioner qualification or equivalent Level 6/7
* Evidence of significant professional development with a focus on IBD / Gastroenterology
* Non‑medical independent prescriber able to prescribe biologics
* Desirable: Counselling skills training
Experience
* Substantial experience and achievement in an advanced nursing role with gastroenterology or IBD patients
* Experience working collaboratively within a multiprofessional team environment
* Experience managing a patient caseload in an NHS setting
* Highly developed specialist knowledge, underpinned by theory and experience
* Experience developing clinical guidelines and clinical care pathways
Knowledge & Skills
* A commitment to nursing and an awareness of issues influencing current and future nursing and healthcare practices
* Transformational leadership and innovative approach to service delivery
* Ability to coordinate IBD care
* Good knowledge of IBD drugs and side effects
* Ability to analyse complex information and provide options for the wider team
* Ability to utilise research and audit to develop practice in self and others
